Jessica: Greenburgh tutor
Certified Tutor
I am so excited to work with new students! My specialty is writing - I spent a year training and practicing writing tutoring at the University of Illinois at Chicago Writing Center. I have a bachelor's degree in Biology, which puts me in a fantastic position to tutor any and all STEM subjects. I also speak French and would love to help beginner students find their footing with this beautiful language. I love seeing students become more confident learners, and I love watching students find what works best for them and grow beyond anyone's expectations!
You can expect me to take a compassionate, curious, non directive approach to tutoring. I recognize and appreciate individuality and take special care to tailor programs specially for each client.
Outside of the classroom you can often find me at the rock climbing gym, or reading sci-fi novels!

What is your teaching philosophy?
I tend to use a non-directive teaching approach in order to cultivate curiosity and independence. I believe that the most important traits for success in any academic environment are confidence and motivation, and I try to impart these on to students through more open-ended, discussion-style sessions when possible.
