What is your teaching philosophy?
To increase reading comprehension, the easiest path is to slow down. Instead of forcing the student to keep reading until they get it, I work to find out how much they can comprehend at once. Maybe this is a paragraph of text or just a sentence. Perhaps the student doesn't understand the words that are being used. Whatever the difficulty, I attempt to break the section down to a level that the student can understand. Once we arrive at that base level, we begin slowly working toward developing deeper levels of comprehension.
Of course, patience, care, and understanding must always be shown. A student learns best when they are shown that the teacher cares. And I care about all my students.
