I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

When I tell people that my major in college was Spanish, there are always the inevitable follow-up questions like, "Do you want to be a teacher?" and "What can you do with that major?" Most people are surprised when I respond, "I want to go to optometry school." Allow me to explain: My mother and her family immigrated to the United States from Italy years ago. Growing up with such a family made me realize how important it is to know more than one language, as it allows you to connect with a larger group of people. Since helping others regulate their sight is something I am very passionate about, I wanted to have a way of helping out as many people as possible. As Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world, I figured this would be a great tool for accomplishing that goal. I decided to study Portuguese for similar reasons. With the amount of knowledge I have accumulated over the past eight years studying these languages and earning both a BA in Hispanic Languages and Literature and a Related Area Certificate in Portuguese at the University of Pittsburgh, I believe that I am more than capable of showing others how to succeed with them. I love working with others, and I can't wait to show people what learning a foreign language has to offer and the doors it can open.

As I recently graduated in the spring of 2016, I am relatively new to tutoring with Spanish, other than the online tutoring I have done with Chegg and TutorMe for a short period of time. However, in high school I tutored in other subjects with National Honors Society for a year.

In addition to Spanish and Portuguese, I am also very enthusiastic when it comes to music. I have been playing the guitar for nine years, and I have played various percussion instruments throughout high school in symphony, marching, and jazz band. I like all kinds of music, but I particularly enjoy rock and metal. I try to go to as many concerts as possible when I have the time. I am a huge hockey fan as well; my favorite teams are the Calgary Flames, Dallas Stars, and Nashville Predators. However, since I am from Pittsburgh, the Penguins are first and foremost when comes down to them verses any other team.
