I am a first year medical student at Washington University School of Medicine. I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2016 with a major in Neuroscience and minors in Mathematics and Biophysics. One of my passions as a future physician include the ability to educate not only patients about their health but also future doctors such as myself.
Ever since high school I fell in love with tutoring. After school, I would help friends and classmates with trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus and I loved the feeling of being able to transform a difficult subject in the eyes of a students and watching them develop a curiosity for it rather than view it as an obstacle. In college, I worked as a teaching assistant for Beginning to Intermediate Statistics where I helped students with mathematics as well as programming in R. I also worked as an Observatory Assistant where I taught astronomy students about the science and cultural history of the observable universe.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is each student learns in their own unique ways. A teacher's job is to cater their teaching style to each student's so that they may not only learn the subject to the best of their ability but also enjoy their learning experience.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session with a student, I will first talk about the goals that this student has and the timeframe they have for reaching these goals. Then, I will ask them if they have a studying plan in mind or if they would like me to create one for them. Next, I will assess their knowledge of the subject and talk over the pace, goals, and expectations for the upcoming sessions. If time allows, I will then begin tutoring.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I can help a student become an independent learner by helping them discover the best ways that they learn. Some students are better motivated when a third party holds them accountable for their goals, and I will be that person for my student if such is the case. Other students learn better when they set their own pace, and I will be there to provide them with any resources and support during their endeavor. Ultimately, I want to help a student love a subject to the extent that studying it no longer feels like a chore. That way, they will be self-motivated to learn.
