What is your teaching philosophy?

Teaching is complex in that it requires one to evolve and develop often. Teaching is a concept that is not easily defined. Teaching is so much more than just learning inside a classroom. Personally, teaching is challenging students to think critically, to think outside the box, and to take ownership of their thoughts to create individuality. Essentially, teaching a rewarding quality if done genuinely. Nothing worth having comes without challenges, frustrations, and responsibility.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a typical first session, I would get to know the student. I want to know their goals and weaknesses in the academics. I would also like to know what their future career goals are, what are their higher education goals and why do they want to do better?

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help a student become an independent learner by teaching them different methods or characteristics of what an independent learner is. Via all the work we will do, I would be directly teaching the students how to become a curious learner by always asking questions, be a self- starter and motivator by setting goals, and become a self-aware student in order to better evaluate their own strengths and weaknesses. In addition, I would teach accountability because it develops discipline, critical thinking that can be used in the real world, persistence, and comprehension. All the strategies mentioned will help the students become autonomous and will help enhance their self-esteem.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would try to get inside the mind of a student by building a positive attitude. I think that students who lack motivation also lack self-esteem and goal setting. I am a very hands on teacher who always follows up and checks in with students to monitor improvements.
