Every single person can learn. It is a matter of how much you want to learn. Follow your nose and you can find the solution. Work together and any problem can be solved. Other than those with N.R.S. ;)

First, I would set some goals, teach them some of my best tricks for language acquisition, and encourage them to practice them daily. From there, we can asses what material needs to be covered/reviewed.

Do it for them once or twice, do it with them once or twice, watch them do it once or twice, and then make them do it many times alone.

Remind them that each day is a challenge and each problem is a chance at success. Tomorrow will always come. What you do to take it on will measure how tomorrow will end.

Suggest another tool/avenue to get to the same goal. If we find success via the second avenue, return to the first way we attempted and show how there are many ways to get to a given outcome.

Initially, rather than requiring one to reproduce specific elements from a reading passage, allow them to share whatever they may have retained from reading. After that, allow them to review the specific questions and then return to the reading.

Get to know them, and allow them to get to know you. Find a non-academic avenue to relate to them and use that to relate the material.

Show them how excelling in this subject can positively affect them in the future.

Beginning any new lesson/session with a quiz about material previously discussed. If this quiz yields a result that is unsatisfactory, return to that material before moving forward.
