What is your teaching philosophy?

Every individual is different and deserves to learn with the right approach.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would try to understand the need of the student and make a plan. Then, I would initiate the lessons with the basics of the content.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I would ask some questions and wait for the student's responses and discoveries. However, I would not skip modelling part of the material, so student will not be lost.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Ask some questions he/she will be able to do. Always tell them they can do it.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would approach from another side, trying to understand the missing prerequisite knowledge.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

If the student does not comprehend the math question because of language skills, I let him/her read the content a few times and help with the vocabulary, before proceeding to solve the question.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Applying the discovery method, summarizing the prerequisite, and relating the new topic to the former ones.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Helping them understand first a simple piece, and then a more difficult one.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

The end of lesson assessment to check for understanding. Also, having them explain it in their own words.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Always tell them they can do it. Give some real-life examples/success stories. Do not miss giving questions they are able to do while you are teaching challenging material.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I have a conference with the student, parents, and (if possible) with her/his teachers. Then, I give a diagnostic test or quiz on an array of the contents based on my initial work.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Throughout the lesson, I stop and see the level of comprehension of the topic, and then reteach the necessary parts of it when needed, rather than going with a standard pace.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

It might be a computer, smart board, manipulative, scientific calculator, etc.
