What is your teaching philosophy?
My philosophy of teaching is to help students enjoy learning and to have fun while completing lessons.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would get to know the student, and together we would set some goals for him/her to achieve during our tutoring sessions.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
The most important way for a student to become an independent learner is for him/her to learn how to become an active reader. I always begin by teaching my students how to annotate and actively engage with any text they are reading.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would help the student by teaching/modeling some active reading strategies that promote comprehension.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I always begin by teaching a student active reading and annotating techniques to ensure his/her success.
