What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe in taking a multidimensional approach. I try to make sure information is given in many different ways. One way could be written; one way spoken to them; also, try to make the information relevant to them.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would introduce myself and get to know the student first. I would try to play a learning game with them to break the ice.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

You can help a student become an independent learner by encouraging them to think for themselves. I would try to make sure the student could find the information needed in the study materials in front of them, and then have them find the answer instead of me telling them what the answer is. If they were still struggling, then I would give them a hint.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would try to keep them motivated by having short-term goals that we are able to meet each study session, as well as long-term goals for all our sessions. I would also try to make the materials as interesting to them as possible.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would try to figure out what part of the skill or concept is challenging for them, and then try to break down the skill or concept to the point where the student understands it.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would first try to see where their reading level is, then access what part of the reading process they struggle at. I would be patient and kind while we tried to figure this out together.
