What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy draws on the strengths of the student. By utilizing tools from previous successes, any student can learn new material with patience and proper references. By using a positive outlook, the most difficult projects become more simple. I always use this philosophy to help students of all ages. It is has a 100% success rate!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In the first session, we will review all assignments and go over the desired outcome. After this has been decided, then I can go over the details of the individual learning plan.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Showing a student how to pull from their own references is always optimal. We are always finding new sources each day that we do not pay much attention. By learning to look for the answers in our assignments, we can fix them individually. This helps students build the confidence to correct their own work and create individual projects.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Relating the material to current day assignments helps a student stay motivated. For example, if a paper assignment is about a current topic. We can relate this topic to popular songs, movies, and articles from the Internet.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Creating a scaffold for the student can help a student grasp a difficult concept that might be otherwise hard to comprehend. This is an outline or tool designed to assist in learning.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Vocabulary, sentence reading, and audio books are ways to help struggling readers grasp their content. Also, repeating older concepts in a new fashion can assist the student who did not actualize the last idea or assignment learned.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Creating a solid learning plan from the beginning with a positive outcome is the first step to tutoring. Also, checking off daily goals and weekly accomplishments are important components to teaching.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Using techniques in video, film, and even music can help a student get more interested in their subjects. Pulling from our own experiences can also motivate the disinterested learner.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Giving the student a test on the subject before and after the assignment is always a good idea to make sure they learned the material. A comprehensive essay test also can help students pull together their knowledge pool.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
The student should always have a positive experience in their tutoring session and be able to go over the subject deficiency. Also, creating a subject interest project can also build confidence like writing a paper or an artistic project tied to the subject matter.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
In the beginning of the lesson, I need to learn about what the student needs to work on. Then, it's important to learn about what they have been struggling with. Finally, I need to see past work and current material to make a fair assessment.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I am always adapting my tutoring to the student's needs since the student is the first priority and their need to learn. I think that if the student has a different learning style, then we can adjust to the needs of the students. Since there are so many learning styles, it's important that any teacher keeps up with this for every student.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I can use textbooks, workbooks, and exams from the students. Also, I can pull from online activities to apply to the student's lesson as enrichment. Also, any creative interest the student might have can also be brought to the lesson.
