What is your teaching philosophy?
My philosophy of teaching evolved from many years of teaching experience. As I reflect on my beliefs regarding teaching and learning, I find that my mission as a teacher is threefold: to promote positive learning; to spark learner enthusiasm for learning; and to provide a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I will try to find out his/her understanding of the subject by asking some fundamental questions.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Teach him/her how to use available resources like reference books, videos, handouts, etc.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
By asking questions, and encouraging him/her when they answer correctly.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would identify the lack of understanding and determine whether or not we simply need to review or take a fresh approach to the concept to be learned. Sometimes you just have to go back to basics.
