David: Marion County tutor
Certified Tutor
Hello, I want to help you with your education difficulties.
I hold a BA in Mathematics and a MA in arts from University of Nebraska, and a BA from LSU in Speech. I have worked for 40+ years part time as a tutor for various companies and freelance while holding down full time jobs in computer analysis and education. I hold a lifetime mathematics teaching certificate and taught for 10+ years as a professional educator in Math. I was one of the first tutors in one of the first math labs in the country and am now retired and working as a certified tutor in College Algebra at a junior college. I have worked for Sylvan (both in their centers and online) and Huntington Learning Center. At Huntington I was certified to tutor SAT and ACT.
With this background, I am most qualified to tutor in math from elementary level through Calculus. But I have also finished a gig as a GED teacher, so I also can teach Social Studies, English reading and writing and some Science. I enjoy tutoring all of these subjects and have a large reference library at my house that I use to help me find answers to questions I do not readily know.
Tutoring is not teaching, but is akin to it. In tutoring I determine what mistake the student is making, and help them determine the correct answer. Then try to clear up the reason that the mistake was made in the first place, and then help them determine what can be done to not make the same mistake again. These steps have been very successful in identifying and fixing hidden issues students are struggling with without teaching them things they already know.
Outside of tutoring, I read a lot and collect vinyl records and old books. I am rather accomplished in origami. I also am a fan of LSU and Saints football and Rangers Baseball.
I am eager to start, and look forward to talking with you..
