I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I'm flexible and can adjust to a student's individualized needs; however, I typically aim towards being methodical, consistent, and persistent. I've seen that doing something many times in the same way helps students understand, master, memorize, and in turn, build confidence.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

After getting to know one another, I try and familiarize myself with the student's course requirements, if any, and their progress thus far. I seek to identify missing assignments, failed tests, upcoming deadlines, etc. If the student isn't currently enrolled in school, then I ask them what their goals are so that we can set our own benchmarks.
