What is your teaching philosophy?
Practice is the key to becoming more confident in almost any discipline. When you are able to break down a topic into manageable pieces and focus on them one at a time until you feel comfortable with each, mastering the topic as a whole becomes much simpler.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Go over what they feel they need to work on most, and come up with a plan to address those needs as well as polish skills in other areas at the same time.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Give them the resources to empower, and motivate them to seek out opportunities to learn on their own. Show that you are as invested in their success as they are, and encourage them to keep working, even outside of tutoring sessions.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Do everything you can to communicate and show your passion for what you are teaching. When you are enthusiastic about a subject, it can have a powerful effect on your teaching style and the attitude you inspire in your student.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Try to assess what exactly is tripping them up in working on that concept, try different ways of understanding and applying it, and then practice those until they are more comfortable with it.
