Certified Tutor

I am currently in my last year of medical school in Seattle, WA. As an undergraduate student at the University of Washington - Seattle, I used courses in Biology, Physics, and Chemistry to explore scientific foundations. Furthermore, courses in Medical Anthropology and Global health taught me the connections between an individual's social contexts and their health outcome. I strove to connect both the biological and social courses and began to understand how societal constructs affected the biology of an individual's body. I found myself fascinated by the interdisciplinary connections: the intricacies of diabetes being influenced by insulin tolerance or an autoimmune reaction yet at the same time being exacerbated by environmental conditions like diet and socioeconomic factors. While working as a research assistant, I simultaneously tutored for the Seattle World School (SWS). SWS was a high school that catered to students who were refugees and immigrants. As a biology tutor, I taught natural scientific foundations that extended from Ecology to Microbiology. Additionally, I was also an English tutor to many Spanish speaking students. While tutoring, I learned how to adapt my teaching styles according to the student's needs. I was aware of each student's unique culture which helped me address the knowledge gaps that accompanied their tumultuous journey to America. Constructing the tools necessary to serve students with various learning styles helped me become adept at devising various examples to accommodate different learning styles. I am a patient and enthusiastic tutor and I find it important to ensure that no one is left behind during the learning process. I can help students understand the concepts presented during class. I love to learn and I am motivated to keep learning for my students.
