Christine: Greenburgh tutor
Certified Tutor
I'm a third year computer science student at Northeastern University with a minor in mathematics. I started tutoring in high school by teaching my peers after school and during our lunch breaks. I have a passion for helping others with their studies and accomplishing their aspirations. It's always an exciting experience to help other overcome obstacles and achieve their goals!
I am also able to tutor in Mandarin Chinese. My hobbies are exploring the city of Boston, visiting historical landmarks and museums, and trying out new cuisines.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is that all students have the potential to excel in any subject they are willing to devote time and effort to. I believe every student has the ability to succeed!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session with a student, I would like to open a dialogue to understand how the student prefers to learn, what their academic goals are, and how we can work to achieve them. I would be open to share my experiences when I was taking classes in these subjects and provide tips on how to overcome common challenges I've encountered.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I can help a student become an independent learner by figuring out what kind of self-study method they excel in through our tutoring sessions. I would help the student develop their own studying style and habits, and find confidence to learn independently.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would help students stay motivated by drafting a step-by-step timeline with short term and long term goals. Short term goals would be small milestones that we could achieve over a couple of tutoring sessions, which serve as an encouragement and evidence of their improvement and progress.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would approach that concept with a different perspective, and by gauging how well the student can grasp the concept or skill, I would start by guiding them through practice problems until they feel comfortable enough to approach problems on their own.
