Where do you want to go to college? I will teach you the skills necessary to gain acceptance to the university of your choice. As a high school student, I worked tirelessly to improve my grades, standardized test scores, and essay-writing capabilities. I was eventually awarded a full scholarship to Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Later, the skills I learned at Georgetown allowed me obtain a Ph.D in microbiology from Murdoch University in Australia.

Since then I have served on the research team of two medical non-profits, written for four well-known magazines, and even founded my own company that helped students write dynamic college essays. I love teaching and have tutored hundreds of high school students in english, writing, biology, microbiology and more. I have a knack for taking complex concepts and breaking them down into simple terms.

Verbal and writing skills form the backbone of a good college application. I have spent hundreds of hours preparing high school students for AP exams and the Reading and Writing sections of the SAT and ACT (also PSAT). I also help students master the SAT II Biology Test and the SAT II Literature Exam. The strategies I teach for these tests have been perfected by years of experience. Most students I've tutored in this capacity have received perfect, or near-perfect, scores on these exams.

In addition, I will help you learn how to write dynamic high school essays and papers. As your writing skills begin to improve, so will many of your grades.

I have an excellent track record of helping students write college application essays. The final product will grab the attention of any admissions committee. The importance of such essays cannot be underestimated as they are key to a successful college application. My students have gained acceptance to Harvard, Stanford, Yale, and many other Ivy League or top-tier universities.

Learning new skills is always a challenge but our sessions will not be tedious or boring. In fact, the opposite is true. I am genuinely engaged by the topics I tutor. This means that my positive attitude and enthusiasm tends to rub off on my students. Whenever possible, I will help you understand how the skills I teach can be applied to the real world. For example, if I teach a biology-based concept, I'll explain how the topic has informed my real-life experience as a scientist. In this sense, our sessions can actually be fun or, at the very least, challenging and engaging.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I talk with the student. I explain that I am always open to feedback, and encourage them to ask questions. I emphasize that there is no such thing as a "dumb" question. I also find out what the student considers to be their own goals, strengths, and weaknesses. Next, the student answers a series of carefully chosen practice questions, or writes a short passage on a fun topic. I use the results to create lesson plans aimed at the student's particular needs.
