If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would ask the student how they learn other difficult concepts and try to link it with this subject. Then I would tell them how I learned it.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would show them the real life applications to the subject and show them just how awesome what they are learning is.

What is your teaching philosophy?

If you can't explain simply something, you don't know it well enough.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Give them the proper tools to learn on their own.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Assess what needs to be worked on further and what we can skip to save time.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Remind them of the applications to what they are learning to show that the toughest subjects are the coolest.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

It depends on the subject, but I give them the proper tools to study on their own time.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Repetition, note cards, and YouTube. These are powerful study techniques.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Help them with what they are struggling with most, and help them master it so they feel more confident in the subject overall.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

It depends on what the subject is and what they are learning; some study techniques don't work with some subjects.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Notecards, whiteboards, and YouTube.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Help them figure out the words they are struggling with.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Go over basic concepts with them, then gradually get more advanced to see when they begin to struggle.
