I graduated from UC Berkeley with a Mechanical Engineering degree and a Math minor. I love teaching math and in particular competition math. I love math contests! I was the captain of the Andover High School Math Team during my Junior and Senior years of high school. I enjoyed helping my fellow students prepare for math competitions. I search for gaps in understanding and then I try to fill them by explaining and using examples. In my spare time, I enjoy sports, board games, and magic tricks.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I search for gaps in understanding, and then I try to fill them by explaining and using examples. I believe you should explain things as simple as possible, but not any simpler.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Try to figure out where the students need help. Then I'd help them.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By making sure that they can apply what they've learned independently.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Encourage them to believe in themselves.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I'd keep trying, and I'd use a different explanation or example.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Reading comprehension takes a lot of focus and practice. I'd give assignments.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Searching for gaps in understanding and then filling them by explaining and using examples.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Use fun and interesting examples.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Give examples that test their understanding.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
By vocally supporting them.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
By asking them and finding gaps in understanding through examples.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
By talking to the student to better understand what they need.
