What is your teaching philosophy?

Let the student develop ways to construct their own knowledge. There is no single right recipe. All students learn in different ways, and all of them are acceptable.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Introduce myself, and then learn about his expectations and learning preferences.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By helping the student to develop strategies and skills that allow them to improve their learning process.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Students stay motivated in a class where they are making progress or are able to construct their knowledge.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Try to explain it in different ways, and remind them that is fine to have difficult times with some topics, because at the end, that is life; sometimes things are simpler, and sometimes it gets difficult.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

There are several methods to help them to get the main point of the reading. So, I will introduce the methods to those students who are struggling.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Learn about them, and approach them in the ways that they learn.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Explaining it in different ways, and putting it in terms that they can understand.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Let them explain back to me what they just have learned.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Reinforce their knowledge until they feel confident enough to move to the next subject.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

By being a good listener, and by the result they are having with the subjects.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

In the ways that they learn. By adjusting their approaches to knowledge

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Textbooks, notebooks, the Internet, movies, and magazines.
