I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I was born and raised in Gainesville Florida and recently received my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida. While in college I worked as a tutor in pre-calculus at Santa Fe College, as well as privately tutored middle school students in algebra 1. I can help students in a wide variety of subjects in math, science, and languages. My favorite subjects to tutor are Algebra 1/2, Geometry, and Astronomy because those are the topics I use the most in my daily life. I can also tutor Pre-Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1, German, and Mechanical Engineering. I am the son of two teachers and I have been a teacher to my younger siblings for as long as I can remember. I have always felt a strong urge to teach those around me, as it helps their knowledge grow and my knowledge solidify. My main goal when teaching is to show students how to look at problems without fear or intimidation. All complex things are made of many simple things! In my spare time I enjoy being outdoors to going swimming, biking, hiking, camping, etc. I also dabble in astrophotography when the weather permits.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is to help others realize that complex things are just a combination of many simple things.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Assess the student's current knowledge base in the subject and ask their preferred learning method.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Showing students that there is a methodology to solving problems takes away fear and anxiety when facing other problems.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Showing students that the problems they are learning how to solve will one day help them solve problems that relate to their life.
