Certified Tutor
I have real world experience when it comes to writing and editing. I worked for a local magazine in Mississippi for nearly 7 years and learned a lot while there. As a published writer, I can help students understand the importance of the written word and proper communication. These are skills every student should know. I also have prior experience tutoring a special needs student in English and writing. My passion for writing and literature is reflected to my students and I do my best to make learning as fun as possible.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I have always believed that learning should be an enjoyable experience. Some students are not passionate about their education, and it is my job to help them find that passion. I want them to understand how important it is to be able to read and write well.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
First off, I would discuss the goals the student is hoping to reach through our tutoring session. I would ask him or her what they enjoy learning and try to gain perspective of what will work best for the student. I would want the first session to be about getting to know each other so the student will be comfortable learning with me.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
It will take baby steps to help a student become an independent learner. First, I would want to start with some independent reading and then note-taking of what he or she is reading so we could discuss it. I would encourage them to branch out and find a subject that interests them the most and research that topic. Passion takes time to build, but I would never give up.
