Certified Tutor
I am a firm believer in the motto "It takes a village to raise a child." It is important that we work together as teachers, tutors, parents and family to ensure each child gets the best education possible. My role as a teacher and tutor is to discover each student's individual learning style and tailor the learning material and curriculum to meet the needs of that individual student so that they are able to achieve personal success.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe everyone learns differently, and my job as a teacher is to discover the learning style of each of my students and tailor the material to meet their needs.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Typically in a first session with a student, I would administer a learning style inventory assessment to determine what type of learning style they have, as well as get to know what motivates them.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Teaching the student strategies that they can practice and use on their own helps develop their independence in learning.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
It is very important to find out what motivates each student, as everyone is different. I would take the time to get to know the student and find out what they are passionate about and motivated by.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Practice, practice, practice!
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Reading comprehension is a very difficult skill to acquire. In order to support students that are struggling, I would work on hands-on strategies to help them remember key concepts when reading.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
It is very important to build relationships with students, and I find it successful to determine the student's learning style, interests and motivators early on to build a positive tutoring relationship.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Excitement is contagious! My job as a teacher/tutor is also that of a cheerleader, trying to encourage and support all students when they struggle.
