As a graduate student in Electrical Engineering, I have had to use higher level Mathematics in nearly all of my Engineering courses. Many students find Math to be difficult because of their lack of understanding in the fundamental concepts which build up to these difficult problems. Math can be a fun subject once the understanding is there, and that is one of the things I strive to help the students see. In order to fully grasp the material present in the "Calculus, the Differential Equations, etc.", students first need to understand the "Algebra, and the Trigonometry", and for that, students need to fully understand the concepts taught to them at an earlier age. Math is a subject completed in steps. You can't arrive at the top of the mountain without first overcoming the many obstacles standing in front of it. I hope to pass my joy in Math to my students and help them overcome their challenges step by step, with them leading the way!

What is your teaching philosophy?
I enjoy taking the time to explain difficult mathematical concepts and problems, breaking them into several subsections so as to make the process much clearer. Many times I see students struggling to solve a difficult problem, and they may try and tackle the problem head-on. This more than likely leads to failure. My approach is to take that difficult problem and break it up into several small problems, which can each be individually solved with much more ease.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
My first session with a student will be to understand the difficulties the student is having with a set of problems or of a mathematical concept, and I will try to address these by providing similar, simpler versions of the problem. I will work with the student to solve this problem, and he or she will then apply it to the problem they are having.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Practice, Practice, Practice. It cannot be said enough that to do well in Math, one must practice many problems, so that once a similar problem is seen, the student can easily recollect the information. It's almost like muscle memory for the brain!
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
For Math tutoring, I will typically use the textbooks I have at my disposal, in addition to any learning materials the student may have. I may also resort to online lectures/videos/notes to enhance the student's knowledge.
