Certified Tutor
I am a junior at Vanderbilt University studying English with minors in Psychology and Music. During the school year, I work as a consultant at the Vanderbilt Writing Studio where I enjoy helping everyone from first semester freshmen to PhD candidates with their writing. I have also tutored privately for five years in SAT prep, college admissions essays, AP exams, and French horn. My essays and poetry have been recognized by numerous contests and conferences including the National PTA Reflections Arts Program, the Scholastic Writing Awards, and the Southeastern Writing Center Conference. I particularly love tutoring writing, language, and literature because becoming better communicators and readers enhances students??? understanding of the world around them, ability to connect with others, and opportunities for self-expression. In a practical sense, improving this set of skills also raises verbal test scores and improves students??? marketability since communicating well is a vital skill in any career. My tutoring style is largely collaborative. I have found that guiding students toward discovering the answers themselves helps them understand and remember the concepts more deeply; this technique also makes the sessions more enjoyable! My favorite activities besides tutoring include watching historical period dramas, singing, journaling, working out, and playing with my many pets.
