Certified Tutor

I graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 2012 with a BA in
sociology with honors. I greatly enjoyed my time at CWRU, and I was
involved in groups such as Women in Liberal Arts and the Residential
Housing Association???s Community Involvement Committee. I became
involved in sociology research in elderly health care at CWRU, where I
gained a love of data analysis. Because of that, I completed a
post-baccalaureate program at Cleveland State University last year,
and next August I will be going to graduate school for an MPH in
epidemiology. I???ve been accepted to Emory and University of
Michigan-Ann Arbor so far, and I???m waiting on the other schools I???ve
applied to. I???m really excited to start my career in epidemiology, and
I???m not even sure how I???ll decide which school to attend!

I???ve been tutoring since 2009; for the last six years, I have
privately tutored junior high to graduate level students in all types
of subjects: from algebra to to biology to history to statistics. I???ve
particularly tutored many high school students, where I tutor nearly
all aspects of their curriculum. I have tutored extensively in ACT/SAT
preparation, with private and professional experience. I also worked
for a year at the Cleveland State Writing Center, where I helped
college students improve their writing skills. I love tutoring in all
its forms, but I am particularly passionate about ACT/SAT prep,
writing, and high school math. Writing has always been a passion of
mine, and I feel like it is applicable to so many parts of life. It is
also so fulfilling to see a student improve on the ACT/SAT, making
measurable changes and gaining confidence. I???ve always enjoyed math as
well, and I enjoy showing students how math can be interesting and
fun.

My tutoring style is really student-focused. I very much strive to
tailor my tutoring to each student???s needs, as every student is unique
in their needs and preferences. I work towards full comprehension,
talking through their thinking processes, and helping them learn
through their own mechanisms. I teach them the skills, strategies, and
content, and I give students the confidence to utilize these to
improve their studies. I reinforce the foundations of what they are
learning, and particularly in test prep, I make sure students have all
the important strategies down. I try and build camaraderie with my
students, making sure they feel comfortable and realize that I too
went through the stressful process of school, whether it be junior
high, high school, or college.

When I am not working or in school, I really value my free time. I
enjoy crafting and sewing, and am working on dresses and earrings. I
love watching documentaries and listening to podcasts. I like reading
a lot of nonfiction, particularly sociology and science, whether it be
books or articles. I like exploring Cleveland, such as trying new
food, going to exhibits, and anything from bowling to arcades.
