I am a proud graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, where I obtained a Bachelor's in Economics in 2007 and a Master's in Education (M.Ed.) in 2011. From an early age, I have supported students in a wide variety of mathematics-based courses, from advanced microeconomic theory to basic pre-Algebra. As a full-time educator in Los Angeles, I currently teach Algebra and Geometry. Though I am credentialed to teach all levels of 7th to 12th grade mathematics, I must say my favorites are Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry. Years of experience as a personal tutor, assistant teacher, and credentialed teacher have trained me to get the most of my students regardless of their skills level, even when they lack motivation for the subject or find the content impossible to understand. My instruction guides students to see connections between concepts and the real world,explore concepts (instead of being spoon-fed all the information at once), and develop strategies to process and remember information. In addition, I focus on helping students develop the study habits that will help them be successful in K-12 education and beyond. When not immersed in mathematics education, I can be found hiking in Malibu, watching a film at an independent theater, or playing ping pong in my backyard. As a native of Colombia, I have a deep appreciation of the immigrant experience and take great pride in being fluent in both English and Spanish.
