I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Andrew

Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of The University of Portland, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, I worked for Nike as a Test and Validation Engineer on their Digital Sport products (FuelBand, SportWatch, Nike+, etc.) for one year before returning to graduate school. I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University, with a focus in design and manufacturing, and will graduate in the summer of 2015.

Though I have never strictly worked as a tutor, I tutored undergraduates as part of the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society while at the University of Portland, and this past year was a TA for a statics & solid mechanics class at Stanford, which included holding office hours for students to help with homework and test prep. I have the most experience tutoring lower division engineering classes such as this (physics, statics, strength of materials, mechanics) but also enjoy and am comfortable with a wide array of math subjects from algebra to calculus. I am a very interactive and hands on tutor, and believe a free-flowing dialogue between student and teacher is essential for maximum learning efficiency. I would much rather work through problems with my students to find areas in need of improvement rather than sit back and watch them struggle.

Outside of academia, I try to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible, including hiking, biking, swimming, camping and skiing in the winter. I enjoy music a lot (both listening and creating) and reading as well, and find current events to be fascinating - though I try not to let them weigh me down, as some of the world's issues can be tough to stomach.
