Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of Wesleyan University. I received my Bachelor of Arts with honors in both Molecular Biology & Biochemistry and Feminist, Gender, & Sexuality Studies with a concentration in animal ethics. Since graduation, I have been teaching various math classes, General Chemistry, and AP Chemistry at a private boarding school in Connecticut. I was a teaching assistant for many upper level chemistry, molecular biology, and mathematics courses in college and tutored privately the past seven years in a wide range of subjects, including standardized test preparation. My favorite subjects to tutor are Chemistry and Biology or any combination of the two because of the seemingly boundless nature of the natural world. As an experienced teacher and tutor, I have seen many students in and outside the classroom at various stages of their scientific and mathematics learning. As a result I have learned how to explain and teach subjects from beginning to endto use metaphors, different study materials, or to regroup and attack a problem from a different angle. Having written a lot of essays and given talks in both science and social science classes/conferences, I realize the importance of conveying information in an understandable and accessible manner. I make this goal a priority when I am working with students.

I am a lifelong student and am inspired to instill a love of learning in my students. Certain subjects, especially science, may not 'be your thing' and that is just fine. It is my job as the teacher to impart that passion for the subject by showing you the ins and outs of the subject, as well as the tricks that will lead to your success. In my spare time, I like to head to Crossfit classes, play some tennis, read my newest find from a local bookstore on my back porch, or head on a trail run with my dog outside through the hills of Marin. I have traveled extensively and always liked collecting friends around the world to have an excuse to head back and visit them some time soon.
