As a single parent in 2002, I gave up my career as a detective in the NYPD in order to create a lifestyle more conducive to raising my daughter. I founded an agency dedicated to the protection of children at this time, and ran the business until my daughter was old enough for me to return to school to finish my undergraduate degree. I enrolled at Columbia University in 2010, and immediately saw that I learned differently than my peers. I quickly mastered the practice of assessing my own learning style and developing techniques to help me derive maximum benefit from my strengths to achieve academic success. I soon began tutoring, helping my peers by assessing their learning styles and developing academic strategies for them based on their strengths. I discovered a passion for helping my students succeed, and have been tutoring ever since. I graduated from Columbia with honors in 2014 with a BA in molecular biophysics, and am currently doing research in molecular biology, theoretical physics, and philosophy when I'm not tutoring.
The core curriculum at Columbia is very broad, and so I have an expansive background in writing and the humanities. Furthermore, my interdisciplinary major provides me with a strong background in organic and inorganic chemistry, physics, mathematics, and the biological sciences. I therefore have a diverse academic skill set, and am equipped to help students of a wide range of learning styles, in a wide range of courses, from elementary school through college level.
