Jeanette: Upper Darby tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of University of Missouri and am currently teaching in a local public high school. I received my Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Spanish, as well as two Masters of Education in Secondary Education and Counseling. Also, I have advanced coursework in Spanish from the University of Costa Rica and advanced coursework as a National Endowment of the Humanities scholar at the University of Puerto Rico. Since graduation, I have traveled extensively to many diverse countries in Central America, South America, Europe, and Asia. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Spanish. Being bilingual has been a tremendous gift for me, and it has enabled me to build friendships throughout the world. As a tutor, I realize that mastering the Spanish language presents many challenges, and I seek to make the material approachable through lots of visual aids and concrete examples. Additionally, I have found that struggling students are more excited about making sense of the complicated grammar structures and vocabulary that are inherent in the language when they can connect with the cultures of the people that speak Spanish. Finally, as a lifetime student and professional educator, I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life. I try to share this appreciation with all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy many active pursuits, such as running, hiking, and yoga. In addition, I am very creative. I enjoy drawing, crafting, and creative writing. Furthermore, I love the outdoors, but most of all, I treasure my time with family and friends.
