Certified Tutor

I am a recent graduate of Bates College, with a B.S. in Math and a teaching certificate for secondary Mathematics. In college I was a peer tutor for writing and math and I spent hundreds of hours in the school system both tutoring and classroom teaching. In addition to the time spent in public schools, I spent the last two summers as a teaching intern at a prestigious independent school in New Hampshire and this fall I taught at an experiential education school in CO, where I mentored students on multiple two-week backpacking trips. It is my belief that learning math is a perfect context in which to learn creative problem solving. In addition to working with students on complete content coverage, I frame problems as a series of open ended questions that lead to the correct answer and develop a rational understanding of the material. When not teaching I am an avid musician, carpenter, backpacker, and skier.
