Tutoring review by Amelia in Chino, CA
Today, we focused on translating from the 1st Catilinarian Conspiracy by Cicero; the student does pretty well overall with her translations. She needs to work on translating left-to-right, as well as on recognizing important syntactical constructions. As we translated, we parsed nouns and verbs, and then analyzed their functions. She was able to complete her assignment, but wants to meet again before her quiz on Friday to go over important details.

The student was working on a group project for math. His portion of the assignment was to create a proportional data table, equation, and one quiz question with an answer. He had forgotten the name for slope intercept equations, but was able to create it for the scenario with minimal help. We moved on to reviewing his Spanish homework and his completing the packet that was due the next day. I noticed that playing music seems to help him focus better on his work than if we work in silence.

The student and I worked on the meanings and uses of parametric equations, especially converting between sets of parameterized equations and normal equations in rectangular coordinates. We also studied the use of parametric equations as an intermediate between polar coordinates and rectangular coordinates. He has a good grasp of what kinds of questions his teacher is likely to ask and is continuing to improve his studying to target that type of information.

Tutoring review by Jason in Chino, CA
Today Student A and I worked on two main math concepts: algebra and coordinates. She picked up coordinates and the basic mechanics of algebra quite well, as we worked through problems together. Student B was definitely prepared for math and was quite quick with probability, algebra, geometry, and ratios. We ended up discussing squares and square roots and he took to that quite well without much exposure to them previously.

Tutoring review by Jacqueline in Chino, CA
We worked on problems in quadratic optimization. The harder problems dealt with all variables in the equation rather than just numbers. We talked about how to set up the equations, substitute in known relations and derive new relations. We went over the work she had in class along with some of her upcoming work.
