The student showed a great deal of grit and determination today as we practiced division of whole numbers with decimal quotients. I believe he can get even closer to mastery by getting into the habit of always double-checking his work for calculation errors. He should also continue studying multiplication tables so that he can more quickly determine solutions for the inverse operation of division.

The student and I worked on least common multiples today. We started with a pop quiz on prime factorization, which we worked on last week. He got 7 out 10 questions right, and again I emphasized the need for him to go back and check his answers because he made minor mistakes on two of the questions that he missed. Then we worked on reducing factors to their lowest form. After that, we worked on writing out common multiples on a worksheet that I brought for him, and then from those, we found our least common multiples. I pointed out to the student not to confuse least common multiple with least common factor. Lastly, we worked on some more complex problems on finding least common multiple. For homework, I gave the student another worksheet on prime factorization. Next week, we will start by taking a quiz on finding least common multiples.

The student didn't have any homework, so I started with a reading lesson on Word Meanings. Given a vocabulary list and sentences he had to use the words in context to write the words that fit each sentence best. He scored 100%. Then I previewed the concept of Place Values on 5th grade level with a short quiz, he scored a 78%.

The student has a test coming up, so we reviewed her study guide today. The topics to be covered are polynomial addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. She demonstrated a solid grasp of all the concepts. The pace at which she is able to work is incredible. We were able to make it through all 28 questions, and she answered almost every one correctly. She is in excellent shape for the test, and she assured me she'll rework the problems and review the tips I gave her.

Tutoring review by Ralph in Redondo Beach, CA
We started with math - the student is in a pre-algebra class and we worked on ordered operations. He did very well with the concepts. I was amazed how well he did with each of the operations. He showed very good understanding. We then worked on his reading/LA. I asked him to pick a story and tell me about it. Then I asked him to write a few names in the story and then tell me about them. He picked Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He gave me three names and told me about them. Then I asked him to write two things down that he told me. He did that and only spelled one word wrong. Then I asked him to read from the book, which he did very well. He only had a problem with two words. It was a very good session.

Today, I helped the student with simplifying radicals and rationalizing denominators. She had a lot of questions about how the problems worked. I gave her extra practice problems as well, so she could try different types of problems and get more comfortable with them.
