Today the student and I discussed his math and Spanish homework. We also brainstormed ideas for his advertising project.

During this session, we focused on preparing for the student's upcoming math exam. We reviewed material from several previous sessions, including solving linear equations and graphing lines. We talked about the rules for simplifying expressions with exponents. We also spent some time reviewing unit conversion, and went through several word problems reinforcing this concept.

In our first session we covered complex numbers, but that was also an excuse to remind the student of all the exponential rules, number and polynomial factoring, squares and other multiplication rules, and the quadratic formula. She was able to follow all the steps and asked good questions. She has now some more material to review before the next time.

We went over the student's geometry homework together and went over some of his chemistry notes. So far, he's been able to explain all of his notes and most of the concepts to me for geometry. His understanding of geometry has been much more solidified, and he's understanding new concepts very quickly.
Chemistry is more of a challenge for him, but I showed him a couple of examples of solubility problems to get him a head start on the new material he's starting this week. So far, he's understanding the conceptual side well and is only getting caught up in the actual problems. With more practice he'll be able to do them easily! We'll continue to work on these next session.

The student and I covered heat transfer, specific heats, temperature changes, factoring, completing squares, and the vertex form of quadratic equations. She has a very solid understanding of this portion in her physics curriculum and had a great attitude toward her material. I would recommend doing some additional practice problems to improve confidence and speed. I was happy to see that she did extremely well on her last physics quiz.
