The student and I completed polynomial arithmetic which had been a topic of concern for him; we also discussed geometric sequences and he understands the process for that concept now as well. He and I continued to work on solving linear inequalities. He and I will address this area of concern moving forward as well as how to decode word problems.

We discussed the student's weekly homework from school and then worked on a worksheet I brought with me. She is gaining a stronger number sense, which I think will help her with problems.

We covered balancing chemical equations and dimensional unit analysis. She was very unsure of both of these topics in the beginning but she was much more comfortable by the end. For balancing equations she needs to make sure she goes back at the end and double check that all of the elements are balanced. For unit analysis she needs to make sure that she keeps each column straight in terms of what dimension she is trying to convert. A few times she tried to make a ratio with seconds and grams, or the like. Each column should be for only one of the dimensions. Finding and completing worksheets on both topics will be the best way for her to practice and improve. She had a very good attitude with everything and seemed very eager to understand the material.

We covered proofs and angle geometry. The student had a grasp of most of concepts and struggled with small fixes here and there that were quickly resolved. She was engaged and excited to work on the problems. I told her that on a technical side she was well prepared, however she needed to build her knowledge base of the theorems in order to use them when needed. I also showed her how to use the diagrams given on her practice problems so that she doesn't get lost in her work. For practice, I told her to go over her problem sets and build a list of the theorems she needed to know. I saw one of her previous exams which I believe was an 89. I believe that this student is a gifted and talented individual and that she will succeed in geometry. It will be important for her to maintain focus and fill in the small gaps that kept her from receiving a higher score on her first exam.

Tutoring review by Sophie Paulette in Passaic, NJ
Today I had the student practice writing a mini essay in French with proper grammar and spelling. Then, I had him read some French dialogue from easy texts on the Internet. I corrected him on his pronunciation and went over translation with him. Finally, we researched together the conventions for writing an epitaph/poem.

We covered some new material on solving equations with radicals. We also reviewed some geometry from last year, paying attention to the concepts that were most difficult for the student. We reviewed her quizzes and practice problems from earlier in the year to begin preparing for upcoming midterms.
