I am a person who teaches because I love doing it. I enjoy science, and I love sharing the joy of understanding how the world works with others. I particularly love helping others to overcome obstacles, and watching the triumph cross their face when things start to "click". I strive to witness that moment as many times as possible.
I am a military veteran - I spent 6 years active duty in the Air Force as an officer. The military paid for my aerospace and mechanical engineering degrees, and in return I served at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station launching military satellites for 4 years, and then for an additional 2 years at Hill Air Force Base working for the Nuclear Weapons Center. I was in charge of maintaining some important pieces of the guidance system in the Minuteman III weapon system during that time. After my time in the service was done, I received an honorable discharge and moved back my home state of Oregon so that I could assist my ailing grandmother who lives alone.
Since I have been home, I have received a Master's degree in Teaching, Secondary Science (i.e. middle and high school), with a certification in Physics. I have taken and aced the Physics Praxis exam, which is the subject matter test for teachers to prove that they know their subject well enough to teach it to others. Currently, I am certified to teach middle and high school science in Utah, and my Oregon teaching license, (which is a K-12 license) is currently processing.
On a personal note, I am what some might call a nerd. I enjoy watching anime, as well as sci-fi/fantasy/horror tv shows and movies. I love to read, draw, listen to music, travel, and care for my children and pets. I have traveled out of country several times, and I am very tolerant and patient with all kinds of individuals.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that students should be empowered to achieve their dreams and explore their world. My teaching methods are student-centered, where the student is engaged and interacting throughout the lesson. I believe that all students learn a little differently, and I am willing and capable at adapting my teaching styles to the student's learning needs.
