The student read a passage twice for one minute. He graphed how many words he read correctly in one minute. He then worked on a math word problem. He had to find the answer, draw a model, and explain his answer in a complete sentence. He needed more practice explaining his answer in a complete sentence, so we did a couple more word problems together. As he wrote his thinking down we also discussed his handwriting. I have seen definite improvement. We discussed having a little more space in between his words. We then started reading a chapter book called I Survived. He was really excited about this. It is a popular book series for his age group. As he read we discussed using expression and sounding out unknown words. I also asked him comprehension questions. He seemed to retain a lot of what he was reading. I have seen a lot of progress with his reading fluency, but it is still something he needs to continue to work on.

We had a great session together for the first time after a long summer off. We continued where we had left off, as the student dove back into the story he had been working on. He did a good job putting his words and ideas together, choosing his events and phrasing as carefully as before. He also remembered the rules of conventions that we had been working on without any trouble.

The student and I focused almost exclusively on logical reasoning. I helped him with a number of different strategies to improve his accuracy with these question types.

The student and I reviewed practice work she'd done since our last session, and worked through a number of additional practice tests - focusing on tenses, comparisons, vocabulary, and dual passage critical reading.

We covered figures, useful sentences, pronouns, verbs and groups, conjugation, verbs to be, to go, and to have.

We worked through a couple quiz sets. The problems focused on linear equations. One of the new concepts was solving linear equations in three dimensions. We reviewed for the upcoming test. We're planning on meeting next Tuesday at 5pm.
