Hi, my name is Colton and I am excited to join Varsity Tutors this year! I am a senior Biophysics student at the University of Central Florida and am preparing for my journey to medical school. I am an experienced math/science tutor as well as a previous high school Biology teacher.

Tutoring has always been a part of my life. In high school, I used a tutor in almost all of my classes freshman and sophomore year. Junior year I used a tutor for the ACT. In all of these cases, my grades and test scores moved up an exponential scale. I have taken what was taught to me, improved upon it, and can now teach it back to others. My senior year of high school I tutored juniors in ACT prep.In addition to those experiences, I have taken AP Literature, AP Language, AP US History, AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, and AP Statistics. I received 5's on all tests. I am up to date on the reformed common core curriculum currently used in public schools as well. Furthermore, I am capable of working with special needs children. I have worked with children on the autism spectrum, children with down syndrome, and Deaf children in behavioral therapy and their class courses.Currently, I am a sophomore at Washington University in Saint Louis. To get to where I am today I used tutors, so I want to help other people get where they want to be by being a tutor.

I'm passionate and interested about the subjects I teach and tutor, and I believe strongly in showing my students how interesting those subjects can be and how enjoyable it is to learn. I've been tutoring my friends, peers, and neighbors since I was in high school all the way until I graduated from ASU this year with a bachelor in Conservation Biology. I'm most comfortable teaching biology, chemistry, physics, math, and history, and I believe that the purpose of a tutor is not to do the student's homework, but to teach them to do it themselves.

I am recent graduate of Binghamton University, with a Bachelor of Sciences in Biology. I am deeply committed to the value of education, and believe that learning is a gift and an opportunity for growth that should be available to everyone. For this reason, I am passionate about tutoring and helping students, so that everyone is able to not only do well in school, but to fall in love with learning in the process. Anyone can enrich themselves through learning. I taught ESL middle school students essential English and Math skills. Since then, I have taught Math, Writing, Study Skills, and Chemistry in a summer program at an elite California private school. I have also developed curriculum for high school and college students in Theology and Religious Studies. I particularly enjoy assisting students with test preparation. By helping students to master core English and Math skills, I can aid students to open doors for their future.My favorite moments as a tutor are when a student grasps concepts we have been working on and they understand the material in a new way. Hello! I am a rising sophomore at the University of Colorado Boulder studying International Relations and Journalism. In high school, I completed the International Baccalaureate program and select AP courses (AB Calc, Biology). Though I have experience teaching students in French and English/ESL, I am able to tutor in most middle and high school course subjects. My teaching philosophy relies on patience, repetition and simplifying difficult concepts in a way that takes the intimidation out of learning new material. In my free time, I love to discover new music, write and practice photography.

I'm an expert SAT tutor.I have over five years experience tutoring this test and over 15 years teaching experience, and I get great results from the index card method.I show my students how to make custom index cards from all of the problems that they've missed on the test. The cards allow them to re-confront the questions which they missed on the practice tests, again and again, until the ideas and understandings that form the solution become integrated into their current skill set.Complete explanations, which I review with them, point by point, are printed on the back, first by me, and then, by imitation, by them. I stress the quality of each of these seemingly obvious steps, because the effectiveness of my method depends upon all of them working together. I insist on a minimum of three problems reviewed in one session and focus on the student adopting the method of short, very frequent review of the material, throughout the day. This technique works! Ambitious students will use this method in whatever they choose to study in the future, so the techniques they learn in my little SAT bootcamp is well worth the money.
