We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

Tutoring review by Tami in Federal Way, WA
The student is doing very well. His confidence is up and breezes through math concepts that he used to be afraid of and/or strayed away from. He uses area models for 2-digit multiplication problems with ease. He says they are learning adding and subtracting numbers with digits to the right of the decimal. So we did a few problems from a couple of online worksheets. He was a little shaky on the first couple problems but quickly picked up the concept. We finished up the session with a couple online games for decimal addition and subtraction. He did well with both games.

The student and I discussed her current course material involving markups, discounts, and percentages. She understands this concept very well! We discussed cost of production versus wholesale versus suggested retail pricing. She was very intrigued by this material. In addition, she also recently learned that she did very well on her SATs. She performed better than 66% of all graduating high school seniors. In lieu of this good news, we will prepare for her next step: high school level mathematical concepts.

We practiced some more simple computation problems such as multiplying fractions and adding decimals. Then we used online stats and a dotplot to see if taller quarterbacks really score more TD's.

The student's teacher had assigned several word problems to the class. They were classic problems like how to get four creatures across a river, two at a time, without anyone eating anyone else. We figured out one. I am sure he will be able to finish on his own with no problem.

The student and I went over her final review before the assessment test. We focused on chapter 7 and 8 as that was her homework for the night. She had it down really well! She is very excited for the school year to be over and to move on to high school.

Tutoring review by Savannah in Federal Way, WA
Today we continued to review concepts necessary to solve inequalities such as operations with positive and negative signs, math with fractions, and variable rearrangement. Specifically, I had the student work through questions he missed on his most recent quiz as well as the extra practice his teacher sent home. He needed help with some of the more complex fraction math, but was able to understand the right process when I explained it to him. He seemed considerably more confident with the material than the last two sessions we had, with less doubt when I asked what to do next. I left him with the remaining practice we did not cover and he was instructed to finish it before the next session. I was very excited to see that he has become much faster with his math and is less uncertain of the process of solving for unknown variables. In the previous session we worked through fewer than 10 problems, and this session he was able to complete over 20. I'm very pleased and I think he is doing very well.
