I like to brainstorm with my students, working toward a final result together. I have a bachelor's degree in English from Loyola University Chicago, a master's degree in literature from Western Illinois University, and I'm currently getting my PhD in literature at University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. I love to read and write, and I have been teaching college composition courses since 2014. I have been helping students of all types with their writing and literacy skills since 2012. Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing video games, crafting, baking, and hanging out with my family. I hope to be able to help students achieve their academic goals!

I am a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) with an Associate of Science in Veterinary Technology from Penn Foster College. In 2001, I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Creative Writing from Western Illinois University. My most recent clinical experience was as an outpatient, ICU and ER technician at an incredibly busy 24-hour small animal hospital. I also have experience working in general practice (small animal) medicine. Currently, I'm training to become a Telehealth specialist, transitioning into the virtual/remote side of veterinary medicine. My background and education has allowed me to not only gain knowledge within veterinary medicine, but also has given me the chance to experience different work cultures and personalities. My goal is that every student I work with is able to learn new things while having fun in the process! My style of teaching is focused yet casual, and learning sessions are a judgement-free zone...as the old saying goes, there really is no such thing as a bad question! My teaching philosophy is that it's not necessary to master all skills at once; instead, let's take a step-by-step approach and ease into the more challenging content. I know that when I was working full-time in-hospital while in the veterinary technician program, I often felt overwhelmed by the material (especially when studying for the VTNE!) Believe me when I say I can 100% relate to having test anxiety! I would like to work on strategies with students that are struggling with that aspect as well. I enjoy the feeling when I can see in a student's expression that the skill or material has "clicked" for them. I have worked with students and new technician graduates in the clinical setting, and I strive to make a lasting, positive impression on each student I encounter. As each student is different, I look forward to getting to know you and figuring out a strategy together that works best for your studying needs! Additionally, my educational background in English and Creative Writing qualifies me to tutor in these areas, alongside my primary subject of veterinary technology.

When I was in high school, I remember seeing the joy of my math teachers when they would teach in class. This inspired me to become a high school math teacher. The first step was becoming a peer tutor to my classmates. This lead to tutoring math to college students. Then tutoring students while working as a TA. Then I worked as a data scientist which not only did I understand more how to apply math in the workspace, but also learned how to explain math concepts to coworkers without a strong math background. This helped me to shape my tutoring philosophy to relate to the person being tutored and this opened the door to me teaching high school calculus 1 & calculus 2!
