I have been a teacher all my life, it seems. When I was in college, I tutored disadvantaged students in the community. As an Army officer, I was responsible for showing soldiers how to most efficiently perform their duties in the service of their country. As a businessman, I trained my employees how to best serve our customers. As a teacher for the past twenty years, I have taught math, drama, and English in grades 7-12.I have taught in very rich and successful schools; I have taught at schools in poverty where every student received free meals. The thing is, I love to learn. The more I learn, the more I can teach. If your child is having a bear of a time at school, I can help. You see, for the same reason I love to learn, I also love to teach.

I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2014 and have been working a variety of jobs from helping out at local hospitals to tutoring and being a research assistant. So far, I have enjoyed tutoring the most because I love seeing students' aha moments. My interest in tutoring begins from my time as a student. I loved to tackle tough problems especially in my math and physics class and was also intensely curious about problem solving in general. My own methods relied heavily on intuition. which was quite irritating as I like to know exactly how things work. Over time, I realized that this intuition was more than luck. In fact, it was a working knowledge of ideas and concepts on a particular topic acquired through hundreds of hours of prior preparation combined with a particular sense of translating a problem into terms I could understand. This understanding reflects in my own teaching style. I like to use discussion to first elicit a student's understanding of the subject. Then, with structured guidance through problems I further develop the student's understanding so that they can see the big picture, including strengths, weaknesses, and implications of a particular concept. These naturally build into developing critical thinking skills. While I currently tutor a wide array of subjects, I am most interested in tutoring Math (geometry, algebra 1/2/prealgebra, trigonometry), Physics 1 and 2, General Chemistry (Honors, AP, or college level), and the MCAT Foundations of Physical Science and Critical Analysis and Reasoning sections.
I love to learn, and I love to teach. My enthusiasm for the material, coupled with my experience teaching students of all ages and abilities, provides an excellent tutoring experience for my clients. I have high expectations for my students, and I work just as hard as they do to ensure that we achieve our goals. Our sessions will be constructive. They will also be fun!
I was accepted to Sidney Kimmel Medical School (class of 2025) on 10/15/20 at Thomas Jefferson University after obtaining my undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Notre Dame in May 2016. With that said, I will dedicate the same quality of care to my students as I would to my future patients. To me, tutoring is mainly about cultivating a passion to learn in the student so that they are able to achieve their ultimate goal. Accordingly, my approach to tutoring is not merely to cram facts into your brain, but also focus on organization by establishing a plan during our first session. If this is what you are looking for, I sincerely look forward to working with you. Thank you, Ning Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nzhou48/
As a current 4th year medical student at the University Massachusetts School of Medicine, I have been challenged with an academically rigorous course-load that has pushed me to mature as a learner across a broad scope of subjects within the medical sciences and beyond. Pursuing a career in medicine while electing to pair my pre-medical classes in undergraduate with a major in Spanish, pushes me to develop multiple strategies that promote my ability to effectively apply and retain information that engages the learner in distinct ways. My passion for these discrete subject areas and my overall natural curiosity led me to seek opportunities where I could further hone my ability to communicate complex information in an understandable and efficient manner, aiding individuals struggling with certain concepts while simultaneously reinforcing my own comprehension of the material. As a tutor at the Excel Center (a tuition-free high school for adults pursuing their GED) in South Bend, Indiana, I have been able to develop and refine my style of teaching while interacting with students on a one on one level in biology, chemistry, and physics classes. Working with these students has given me a unique experience in promoting individual interest and curiosity in academic subjects, generally years after the students most recent exposure to learning in a classroom setting. I firmly believe that the key to thorough and lasting mastery of subject material is presenting the information in a way that appeals to the individual, prompting a desire to understand and improve that complements the desire for academic success and strong test scores. In working with students, I aspire to present topics in a manner catered specifically to the unique needs of the individual and will do all that I can to help attain command of critical concepts encountered. When preparing for exams, it is easy to become discouraged if the results do not match the effort exerted by the student. Often times students preparing for USMLE exams, tests in physics, biology, chemistry, or psychology will spend large amounts of time inundating themselves with terminology and immense volumes of notes, potentially leading to discouragement and disengaging study habits. I believe that successful test scores in scientific subjects require consistent, active engagement with information being studied, centering on practice problems and challenging oneself to truly understand rather than rely on memorization. No matter an individuals natural affinity for the sciences or other subjects, I will strive to develop active strategies that promote efficient preparation and allocation of focus, skills that are indispensable in preparing for AP tests, college exams, and content heavy standardized tests such as the USMLE, MCAT or DAT.Outside of the classroom, I enjoy working out, playing basketball and soccer, and hiking. I am an avid Boston sports fan and particularly love watching the Patriots and the Celtics. I hope to be able to pass on my passion for learning (and perhaps these sports teams) to the students that I work with, and I will always seek to bring positivity and focus to every session until the students individual goal is achieved.
I am a senior Neuroscience and Behavior major at the University of Notre Dame. As a premed student, I have completed all of the basic science requirements, and I took the MCAT this past summer. Throughout my undergraduate years, I have tutored elementary school students in South Bend, IN and in Dublin, Ireland. I believe that every person has the ability to succeed in any course, and I think the key to success is understanding how you best learn as an individual. I am excited to help more students find success in subjects they are struggling with.
I have my law degree from Notre Dame University and my undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Communications Studies from Loyola University Chicago. I am passionate about the importance of education and hope to be able to help my students attain their goes. I am particularly passionate about and experienced with helping in all levels of reading, writing, editing, English, public speaking, and political science. Additionally, as a law school graduate and someone that was successful on the LSAT, I am experienced with helping students effectively prepare for the LSAT.
I got my Bachelor's in Biology from the University of Notre Dame and I just earned my Master's in Microbiology. I have been tutoring for 2 years now at a community college and love it! I enjoy breaking down problems and simplifying them to show students that they can understand. I tutor many kinds of biology/life sciences, as well as chemistry, math, test prep, and even music theory!
I am a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. I received my Bachelor of Science in Physics. Next fall, I will begin pursuing a Ph.D. in electrical engineering. Math and Physics make up the inner core of my expertise. However, I know what it takes to achieve high scores in all sections of standardized tests. I developed a passion for helping students achieve their academic goals after tutoring students in my mother's fifth grade classroom. This experience has also led me to tutor high school and college students. Therefore, I enjoy tutoring students of all ages and abilities. In my opinion, problem solving is a learned skill that is widely applicable in many areas of life. My tutoring philosophy is to develop students into better problem solvers while assisting them in particular courses or standardized tests. My hope is that by developing these fundamental problem solving skills they will eventually no longer need my help in future courses or standardized tests since they will have the necessary tools to succeed on their own.
Hello everyone! My name is Emily and I'm tutor for the north Houston, Woodlands and Conroe area. I have a Master's degree from the University of Notre Dame where I also completed enough training sessions and coursework to get a certificate in education methods. I have quite a bit of experience tutoring Spanish, French, and Latin, but am happy to help in areas of history, English reading/writing, and some math as well. I have also been a math tutor in the north Houston area for high school students who need help understanding concepts.
I am an Ivy-league graduate (Princeton summa cum laude) and an editor for an academic publishing press. I have years of experience teaching and mentoring at the university level (University of Notre Dame), and I've also tutored students in chemistry, math, the arts, and humanities from elementary school through high school. I've worked and lived in over seven different countries with international colleagues and I'm very understanding of different cultural backgrounds. I fell in love with teaching years ago while serving as a librarian for children and teens, and I enjoy working with students to reach their full potential.
Hi I'm Quinton! I'm a PhD student at the University of Notre Dame and I love talking about chemistry! To me, chemistry is a hands-on, creative discipline, much like art, where we solve problems and design things the world hasn't seen before. As your tutor, my goal is to help you build the skills and confidence you need to think critically, approach challenges creatively, and build a deep, genuine understanding of the material.
I am a bilingual first-year med student at the Indiana University School of Medicine and a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Pre-Health and am a certified Spanish-English medical interpreter. I am most passionate about helping individuals improve their Spanish, science and math skills! I have experience tutoring high school and middle school students in Spanish and math, but I am interested in tutoring individuals of all ages.
I have over ten years of teaching and tutoring experience, including one year teaching ESL at a Kindergarten in Chiang Mai, Thailand, three years teaching ESL at a cram school for students in elementary, middle, and high school in Taipei, Taiwan, and two years teaching creative writing to undergraduates at the University of Notre Dame. As someone who has studied Mandarin Chinese for three years, I understand the difficulty of acquiring a new language and the importance of immersion in the language as opposed to rote memorization of vocabulary words. I also believe that presenting arguments in a clear, well-structured, organized manner will improve any essay, regardless of the subject.
I am a junior at the University of Notre Dame majoring in American Studies and minoring in Digital Marketing. I am very passionate about helping students, and I have been tutoring since my freshman year of high school. I use a high energy, personalized approach to tutoring in order to help students gain confidence in their abilities!
Throughout my undergraduate education in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame, I have developed a mastery of various subjects, but also a desire to share this knowledge with others. Because of this, I am enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering PhD program at Rice University which will begin Fall 2020, and I am hoping to return to academia as a professor after earning my PhD. In the meantime, I am looking to share my passion for gaining knowledge, specifically in STEM, by educating the up and coming members of such a great field. I have experience tutoring both Calculus and Physics at Notre Dame, as well as experience as a Student Assistant for Differential Equations and Mechanics. I believe the key to learning is much deeper than learning to solve problems and that seeking knowledge is one of the best means for personal improvement.
As a student who came up through New Orleans Public schools I know firsthand the difference that a devoted teacher can make for a student. I was a decent student during elementary, middle, and high school, but I didn't work to my potential. The educational experience that changed my life was due to my displacement following Hurricane Katrina. I had the opportunity to take a physical science class in which I was constructively challenged. Through this class I discovered an intellectual curiosity that I didn't know I had. My teacher always spoke about how the tests became fun if you understood the material, and in the midst of difficulty found a reason to push on. It was refreshing to have an adult taking an interest in my academic achievement – someone who wanted me to exceed my own expectations. My passion to educate and to be the change in other students’ lives stems from my experiences with phenomenal teachers, tutors, and mentors. Teaching both middle school and high school courses has allowed me to become familiar with the opportunity gap that is affecting students across the country. Considering my own academic journey and how fortunate I've been, I don't merely feel compelled to help young students; I feel duty-bound. Helping to shape the minds and lives of young people is the least I can do to make a difference and honor those who have sacrificed on my behalf.
I'm passionate about helping students become more confident in their academic skills! I believe that all students are capable of excelling; it's just a matter of whether or not they have adequate help.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences with a minor in Anthropology from the University of Notre Dame. After graduation, I entered a M.S. graduate program in Biology at Arizona State University. When I'm not teaching biology to undergraduate majors at ASU, I research topics in aquatic ecology. Understanding the connectedness and patterns of environmental processes in aquatic ecosystems drives my passion to become an ecologist! My goal is to help students view learning as a positive experience! When students learn with me, they usually find that it is a very relaxed, hands-on, and visual process. I excel at tutoring biological subjects, but I also really enjoy helping students improve their writing and standardized testing skills. Every student is different, and so I firmly believe that studying and learning habits should be tailored to each person. I make it a goal to help students discover how they learn best! I can also help students with organization and time management techniques along the way. When I'm not being a student, teacher, or researcher, I am usually making art or exploring the outdoors in sunny Arizona!
I have a college degree in Physics and a graduate degree in Biology. I love to see students gain an understanding of the material through examples related to the world around us.I have had experience teaching as a substitute from 1st through 12th grade, including many assignments with students with developmental disabilities, where I was able to work with these students more on an individual basis. I have also taught many undergraduate laboratory classes in physics and biology. These courses provide a great opportunity to work one-on-one with students who need some extra help and to make sure that everyone is comfortable with the topic being examined.I believe that students gain a better understanding and appreciation for the material when they are led to the answer through questions and examples rather than just being told how to answer the question or perform the calculation. Although I have mostly taught at the college level, I have experience teaching students at all grade levels and enjoy helping students learn regardless of their current knowledge or ability in a particular subject.I enjoy interacting with students of all ages and helping them understand a subject, especially when they are having difficulties. I think many students who dislike school or a particular subject because they are not good at it or do not get it. The reason they are not good at it is likely because they have not spent the time or had the individual attention they need to be successful. I enjoy being able to spend the time to answer questions and ultimately help the student get to the answer on their own. When they can do this, they gain a much deeper appreciation for the thing they are studying. It is also great to see a student come to an understanding of the topic after they are given some information or strategies they did not have before.
I started as a tutor in 1994 in Virginia. I enjoyed the work so much I moved to Thailand and taught English in Songkhla, a small town near the Malaysian border. That experience led me to many more international jobs. I've lived and worked overseas for over 10 years in Thailand, Hong Kong and London. At each stop along the way I've been privileged to be known as a reliable resource for those needing assistance with their English. Native speakers and ESL students alike. My approach is simple: I move at your pace until I'm confient you understand the material. Then a gentle push to the next level is applied. Using previous sessions as a foundation I focus on the fundamentals. I eschew tricks and gimmicks for getting to the right answer. You will know the answer, not arrive there via educated guessing.I am a seasoned financial services professional, and bring that professionalism and attention to detail to all my endeavors. We will apply ourselves and take full advantage or our time together. I am also a volunteer firefighter, and that spirit of service and helping others animates my tutoring style, too.I'm looking forward helping you improve your school work and increase your standardized test scores. I hope I can work with you to achieve your goals.
I received my Bachelor of Arts with a double-major in English Literature and Psychology from the University of Notre Dame in May 2014. After graduating, I served as an Augustinian Volunteer for a year in Chulucanas, Peru, where I worked as a computer teacher at a technical institute called CETPRO Betania. I have previously tutored a broad range of subjects and age groups, and I have especially enjoyed working with students to develop their writing skills. I tutor ACT Test prep and English with a focus on critical reading and writing skills. I am passionate about learning and I try to impart a love of learning to my students. In my spare time I enjoy painting, playing the piano, and reading.
I have been teaching 2nd Grade for over three years and substitute taught K - 8 this past fall. I have taught in Indiana, Mississippi, and California. I am a three-time graduate of the University of Notre Dame. I received my Bachelor of Arts in History, and received Master's Degrees in both Education and Educational Administration. I spent 17 years in secondary education, beginning my career as a social studies teacher and then transitioning to several administrative roles including dean of students, activities director, and principal. I currently tutor in English, Writing, and Essay Editing. I have spent time tutoring Vietnamese students applying to colleges and universities in the United States, assisting them with their application essays from concept to completion. I love to teach, whether that is how to swim, how to water ski, or how to write an excellent essay. In any teaching situation, what I enjoy most is watching the fear leave students' eyes as they realize that they can do something they didn't believe they could do. That's why tutoring in college application essays is my favorite. Essays can be intimidating, especially when admission to college is riding on them, but the barriers that cause fear can be easily broken down and every student can be empowered to write excellent essays. I've worked with students applying to nearly all of the top 25 universities in the United States. I take a very personal approach to tutoring, meeting students where they are and walking alongside them to get them where they want to be. When I'm not working, I enjoy doing anything with my dog and anything outside, especially if it involves being under, in, or on water.

I've been a test prep and individual tutor for over 15 years. My training is as a school psychologist; I consider it a strength of mine to be able to work with and to identify individual learning styles and to adjust accordingly. I particularly love teaching ACT/SAT math. I aim to connect students to other own learning styles so they can make them work for them.
I graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in Psychology and Spanish. Since earning my degree, I completed a two-year commitment as a corps member with Teach for America (TFA). TFA is an organization that works to analyze gaps in the education system and fills roles based on the belief that all children have the right to an equitable, excellent education. Throughout my commitment in the corps, I taught Spanish I, Spanish II, and Spanish III. I also served as the ESL leader in my school and have experience tutoring all subjects for high school-age students whose first language is not English. I also use my background in psychology to work with all of my students on study-skills that are beneficial for encoding (storing new information in the long-term memory). In my free time, I love to play soccer, run, try new foods, hike, and hang out with friends!
I graduated from the University of Notre Dame summa cum laude, receiving my BA in Spanish and Premedical Studies.I have tutored many different subjects at nearly all levelsfrom high school to graduate schoolbut I love to teach college-level science the most.
