I am a graduate from the University of Notre Dame, where I studied Philosophy, History, and Education, and this fall I am beginning Graduate School at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for a Master's in Library and Information Science. I have certifications in 5-12th grade English, Level 1 Google Education, and Level 5 Teaching English as a Foreign Language. During my time at Notre Dame and continuing to the present, I have held numerous positions in education, including tutoring, small-group leadership, classroom teacher, and trainer/supervisor. Most of my work has focused on middle school English, Social Studies, and literacy, but I have tutored in all subjects and all grade levels. The philosopher Plato once said that the purpose of education is to 'turn the soul' of the learner towards truth. I have made it my life's work to inspire this perspective shift and passion for learning in others, and I hope to continue to do so with your child.

I graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Anthropology and Economics. During my time there, I also wrote for the HuffPost and conducted research in Biology. I then went on to get a Masters Degree in Secondary Education from Arizona State University, and I am a certified teacher with two years of classroom experience. I have been tutoring since I was a freshman in high school and I've scored highly on the ACT and GRE.
I received my Bachelor of Arts with a double-major in English Literature and Psychology from the University of Notre Dame in May 2014. After graduating, I served as an Augustinian Volunteer for a year in Chulucanas, Peru, where I worked as a computer teacher at a technical institute called CETPRO Betania. I have previously tutored a broad range of subjects and age groups, and I have especially enjoyed working with students to develop their writing skills. I tutor ACT Test prep and English with a focus on critical reading and writing skills. I am passionate about learning and I try to impart a love of learning to my students. In my spare time I enjoy painting, playing the piano, and reading.
I got my Bachelor's in Biology from the University of Notre Dame and I just earned my Master's in Microbiology. I have been tutoring for 2 years now at a community college and love it! I enjoy breaking down problems and simplifying them to show students that they can understand. I tutor many kinds of biology/life sciences, as well as chemistry, math, test prep, and even music theory!
I have a college degree in Physics and a graduate degree in Biology. I love to see students gain an understanding of the material through examples related to the world around us.I have had experience teaching as a substitute from 1st through 12th grade, including many assignments with students with developmental disabilities, where I was able to work with these students more on an individual basis. I have also taught many undergraduate laboratory classes in physics and biology. These courses provide a great opportunity to work one-on-one with students who need some extra help and to make sure that everyone is comfortable with the topic being examined.I believe that students gain a better understanding and appreciation for the material when they are led to the answer through questions and examples rather than just being told how to answer the question or perform the calculation. Although I have mostly taught at the college level, I have experience teaching students at all grade levels and enjoy helping students learn regardless of their current knowledge or ability in a particular subject.I enjoy interacting with students of all ages and helping them understand a subject, especially when they are having difficulties. I think many students who dislike school or a particular subject because they are not good at it or do not get it. The reason they are not good at it is likely because they have not spent the time or had the individual attention they need to be successful. I enjoy being able to spend the time to answer questions and ultimately help the student get to the answer on their own. When they can do this, they gain a much deeper appreciation for the thing they are studying. It is also great to see a student come to an understanding of the topic after they are given some information or strategies they did not have before.
I currently attend the University of Notre Dame, majoring in finance and political science. During high school, I was a tutor for three years, mainly teaching various english and literature classes. I currently tutor for the ACT, with a specialty in English and Reading. I like these subjects because they are so commonly used in every day life, and I feel that I have very effective strategies that will help a student succeed in these subject areas. I took the ACT three times, so I feel very familiar with the test taking experience and strategies for success. My teaching style is very open and transparent; I am willing to address any issue with an open mind and I try to develop strategies that play to a student's strengths. I would like to think I am very approachable and personable, and I have had very positive experiences with many students in the past using this philosophy. Outside of academics, I love playing basketball and watching sports, as well as chilling with friends, listening to music, and keeping up with politics and current affairs.
I am currently a student at the University of Notre Dame (Go Irish!). I am pursuing a double major in Finance and Applied Mathematics in hopes of becoming an Actuary (a financial risk analyst) upon graduation. Throughout high school, I have pursued a wide variety of opportunities, ranging from being one out of only five cellists selected to study music at the Georgia Governor's Honors Program to obtaining a research internship at the University of Georgia during which I attempted to detoxify contaminated waters in third-world countries. Outside of academics, I love sports, animals, and learning about different cultures and backgrounds (I myself come from a diverse background, having lived in Korea, California, Alabama, Georgia, and Indiana). I appreciate a variety of music, and I strongly believe that rap is the modern-day poetry. While I tutor in a variety of subjects, I specialize in math (Algebra, Geometry, Pre-calculus, ACT/SAT/SAT Subject Math, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations - you get the point). In my experience in helping students prep for college and standardized test level math, we have the most amount of fun (and make the most amount of progress) in coming up with real life examples of each concept we cover so that we can both see the motivation and purpose behind learning each subject. I strongly believe that education is an essential foundation to a prosperous life, not only due to the academic knowledge one gains but also because of the principles of determination, perseverance, and discipline that it cultivates, and I try to instill this appreciation to all my students.
My name is Steven Marvin, and I am a Finance/ Applied Math student at the University of Notre Dame. I have previous experience tutoring at a Math learning center for over 2 years. I am passionate about helping others and problem-solving.
I am a college professor with 10 years of teaching and tutoring experience; with the experience and patience to help you achieve your goals in any mathematical setting. Undergraduate, graduate, high school math courses and math sections of standardized tests are my specialty.
I am a recent graduate of the University of Notre Dame, with a Master's degree in Management. Before Notre Dame, I studied English Writing and French at Saint Mary's College, and French is by far my tutoring passion. My favorite thing about tutoring is just being able to share the subjects I love with other people. I have previous experience tutoring French and writing at Saint Mary's College, where I have received pedagogical training as a part of my work. I know how to help students become better learners overall, instead of just getting a better grade on one assignment. Outside of the classroom, I love video games, Jane Austin, and singing.
As a current 4th year medical student at the University Massachusetts School of Medicine, I have been challenged with an academically rigorous course-load that has pushed me to mature as a learner across a broad scope of subjects within the medical sciences and beyond. Pursuing a career in medicine while electing to pair my pre-medical classes in undergraduate with a major in Spanish, pushes me to develop multiple strategies that promote my ability to effectively apply and retain information that engages the learner in distinct ways. My passion for these discrete subject areas and my overall natural curiosity led me to seek opportunities where I could further hone my ability to communicate complex information in an understandable and efficient manner, aiding individuals struggling with certain concepts while simultaneously reinforcing my own comprehension of the material. As a tutor at the Excel Center (a tuition-free high school for adults pursuing their GED) in South Bend, Indiana, I have been able to develop and refine my style of teaching while interacting with students on a one on one level in biology, chemistry, and physics classes. Working with these students has given me a unique experience in promoting individual interest and curiosity in academic subjects, generally years after the students most recent exposure to learning in a classroom setting. I firmly believe that the key to thorough and lasting mastery of subject material is presenting the information in a way that appeals to the individual, prompting a desire to understand and improve that complements the desire for academic success and strong test scores. In working with students, I aspire to present topics in a manner catered specifically to the unique needs of the individual and will do all that I can to help attain command of critical concepts encountered. When preparing for exams, it is easy to become discouraged if the results do not match the effort exerted by the student. Often times students preparing for USMLE exams, tests in physics, biology, chemistry, or psychology will spend large amounts of time inundating themselves with terminology and immense volumes of notes, potentially leading to discouragement and disengaging study habits. I believe that successful test scores in scientific subjects require consistent, active engagement with information being studied, centering on practice problems and challenging oneself to truly understand rather than rely on memorization. No matter an individuals natural affinity for the sciences or other subjects, I will strive to develop active strategies that promote efficient preparation and allocation of focus, skills that are indispensable in preparing for AP tests, college exams, and content heavy standardized tests such as the USMLE, MCAT or DAT.Outside of the classroom, I enjoy working out, playing basketball and soccer, and hiking. I am an avid Boston sports fan and particularly love watching the Patriots and the Celtics. I hope to be able to pass on my passion for learning (and perhaps these sports teams) to the students that I work with, and I will always seek to bring positivity and focus to every session until the students individual goal is achieved.
