- Since I can remember I have had a passion for learning math and science.
- I teach problem-solving techniques and study strategies through collaborative learning, step-by-step tutorials, and numerous examples.
About Me
Knowing I loved both math and science and needing a challenge, I made my way to the University of Tennessee where I chose to major in Nuclear Engineering, the most difficult sounding engineering specialty I could think of (whether it was actually the hardest is to be determined). While there I earned my B.S. and M.S. with honors, and completed the coursework for my Ph.D. I was awarded multiple fellowships and interned at several national laboratories. Tutoring experience from school and engineering experience from internships showed me that I preferred teaching math and science over being an engineer. Because of my background, I have a lot of experience navigating the numerous pathways leading from university, to graduate school, to the professional world. My mission is to equip every student I tutor with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their STEM courses, no matter their age, socioeconomic background, or motivation level. We will work together to find strategies that work for you and that you can confidently use on your own. I have formally tutored classmates, family, and paying clients, from high school all the way through graduate school and beyond. I tutor math and physics courses up to Calculus 3 and Modern Physics, as well as a variety of lower level engineering courses. I provide help on homework and tutoring for writing/editing research papers and lab reports.
Hobbies & Interests
Mental and physical health play a big role in my life. I am a licensed personal trainer who teaches powerlifting and bodybuilding. I also regularly work to raise awareness of the growing number of men with mental illness and to normalize men talking about their mental health. I am also an avid RTS gamer who enjoys his daily walks outside with his two dogs, Pancake and Sheldon. In my spare time I like to garden and decorate my home.
