Many times a student has experienced challenges with reading which causes them to not enjoy it as much mostly because it has been hard for them.I am passionate about literacy and I make it my goal to help the students gain a positive reading experience that will foster a love for literacy and learning. I have found that when students can make connections to real world topics they are much more likely to understand the content in chemistry and physics.I honestly believe that students need a variety of ways to internalize information. For the chemistry course I taught to ESL students, I made podcasts for them with each of the objectives I needed for them to acquire and encouraged them to view these video podcasts to increase their understanding of the content. During classroom time, I would spend the majority of the time making connections to real world situations. These video podcasts were uploaded to a you tube channel fore easy access.

Worked with Julia Child and Jacque Pepin. Brochures, proposals, technical writing, resumes and product copy were a part of all the projects. Photography and design were elements for the creative and brand strategy to meet the client's goals. I enjoy problem solving, management and instruction on familiar topics. When I first began language teaching in 2001, I will be honest and confess that I mirrored the teacher-centered approach of the "sage on the stage" that my professors had utilized while I was working towards my BA and MA in Spanish. When I began my doctorate at the University of Minnesota in Leadership for Intercultural and International Education, however, that began to change. My doctoral program was designed around the cohort model, which was new to me. In it, we were all considered experts in our field and we were expected to teach each other. I liked the responsibility placed on my shoulders of presenting a designated topic to my peers and professor. In this student-centered approach to learning, I appreciated that the professor served the role of mediator / observer and the students were responsible not only for their own learning, but for presenting accurate information to their peers. That positive experience motivated me to shift my teacher-centered approach to a student-centered approach in my ESL classroom. While I don't have my students instruct the entire grammar point or vocabulary lesson in front of their peers, I do assign a micro lesson to each student that they must review with the class as if they were the instructor. In structuring my language courses, I strive to create and implement activities that enable students to develop all four language skills, with particular emphasis placed on listening. Listening is often overlooked during the first two years of college instruction, but it is essential for student success and is actually the most used skill in immersion and everyday contexts.

I graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Development and Family Studies. I am currently working towards receiving my M.S. in Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis. I aspire to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst working with individuals to help them achieve desired behavioral goals.I want to take my passion for teaching to those who want to learn and grow to the best version of themselves. This is a safe space that practices cultural humility and individualized learning.I can offer assistance with Elementary English, Elementary Math, Elementary Science, and Elementary Social Studies.I have experience and am able to assist individuals receiving special education services or individuals with learning and developmental disabilities. I specifically have experience with an autism spectrum disorder.
