I want to be a positive light for all students, especially those who find school to be difficult. Many times a student has experienced challenges with reading which causes them to not enjoy it as much mostly because it has been hard for them.I am passionate about literacy and I make it my goal to help the students gain a positive reading experience that will foster a love for literacy and learning. Hopefully this positive light will carry over into their future. My experience in working with students is with kindergarten through eighth graders in the school setting. I have been a 5th grade classroom teacher for 10 years, then I served as a 7th and 8th grade teacher for 3 years. More recently I spent 8 years as a Reading Specialist for grades K-4 before becoming a Principal for a K-3 elementary school.I earned my Bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University, then I earned my first Master's degree in Reading Instruction from Aurora University. Recently, I earned a second Master's degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University. My favorite subjects to tutor are Reading, Writing and English Language Arts. These are my favorite because I am an avid reader and I find enjoyment in escaping to the setting of the book as a character from the story. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and new granddaughter. I also love family vacations by the water, swimming, biking, walking, and reading.

I am passionate about student learning in the fields of English writing, literature, and theatre. I hold a dual BA in English literature and theatre from Bowling Green State University and am working towards my MA in English at the University of Maine. Always aiming to meet students where they are at, I do my best to scaffold new information and foster good lines of communication with those I am teaching. I believe that successful engagement with literature and written communication (and the critical thinking skills that accompany them) are vital to student success across disciplines and fields. Additionally, I have nearly 15 years of theatre experience, having been actor, crew, stage manager, director, and nearly everything in between! Though I currently teach university freshmen, I also have experience with K-12, and love working with students of all ages! A good tutor knows that not every student loves the subject they need guidance in, and works to help the student not only achieve better grades, but to understand the importance of what they're learning. Let me help you get a leg up in your subject!

High energy and enthusiasm for work well done will be seen as frequently as corrections for areas that require assistance when your child is in my classroom. A wide variety of props and materials to help keep him or her engaged throughout the lesson will be used often. And because it is so very important that we work together as a team to help your child grow, frequent feedback and communication with you, the parent, is something I can ensure that you will always receive. I am a graduate of Bowling Green State University where I received a Bachelor's degree in Business but have spent the last ten years continuing my education and teaching children in various capacities. While I can tutor most elementary-level subjects, I am most passionate about ESL, Reading, English, and Math. Parents have blessed me with kind words in relation to the teaching of their children. The most common ones are: strong in scaffolding and student encouragement; strengths in phonics, pronunciation, and reading; energetic personality. I look forward to meeting you and can't wait to help your child grow!

I am a passionate educator with a track record of helping students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities find success. I have a BS in Secondary English Education with a minor in Technical Writing, and I've used this training to teach traditional English, literature, and drama classrooms in 6th, 7th, 8th, 10th, and 11th grades. I use the skills from my minor to break down information in a manageable way; after all, technical writing is all about providing clear, helpful instructions! In 2021, I received my MA in English with a graduate certificate in the theory and practice of teaching college writing. I use this degree to teach English 1101 and English 1102 at a community college in Georgia. I teach traditional and non-traditional students, including many high school juniors and seniors who are dually-enrolled. I specifically enjoy working with writers who lost opportunities to build foundational knowledge due to the COVID lockdowns and digital learning. I also have experience working with English Language Learners and individuals with special needs. I currently work full time as the Director of Programs and Education at a live performance theatre. This job allows me to teach literacy through drama to individuals between the ages of 5 and 100. As a teacher and tutor, my goal is to analyze the learning styles of my students and use the analysis to find ways of meeting them where they are. From there, we'll get them to wherever they want to be and beyond.
