I graduated with a Bachelor's of arts in German from Bowling Green State University in the spring of 2014. During my undergraduate program, I spent a year studying abroad in Salzburg, Austria, where I took college classes in German and effectively interacted in German in my daily life.As a tutor, I am trained in current teaching methods and have experience adapting lesson structures to student strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. I am trained in lesson planning, instruction, assessment, and using assessment data to guide further lessons through City Year, Inc. I have used assessments and a quick review question for the last session to tell me what the student still needs help with or if we are ready to move on to something else. As a tutor with City Year, I also gained hands-on experience tutoring a diverse group of students in a variety of subjects and supported students in Algebra and Physical Science classrooms. Additionally, after school, I also started to teach one student the basics of the German language. By the end of the year, we were starting every day with greetings and a simple conversation in German.I am looking forward to sharing the wonders of German and teaching the language, I would also love to tutor algebra as well as middle school science and math. I look forward to working with you.

I want to be a positive light for all students, especially those who find school to be difficult. Many times a student has experienced challenges with reading which causes them to not enjoy it as much mostly because it has been hard for them.I am passionate about literacy and I make it my goal to help the students gain a positive reading experience that will foster a love for literacy and learning. Hopefully this positive light will carry over into their future. My experience in working with students is with kindergarten through eighth graders in the school setting. I have been a 5th grade classroom teacher for 10 years, then I served as a 7th and 8th grade teacher for 3 years. More recently I spent 8 years as a Reading Specialist for grades K-4 before becoming a Principal for a K-3 elementary school.I earned my Bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University, then I earned my first Master's degree in Reading Instruction from Aurora University. Recently, I earned a second Master's degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University. My favorite subjects to tutor are Reading, Writing and English Language Arts. These are my favorite because I am an avid reader and I find enjoyment in escaping to the setting of the book as a character from the story. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and new granddaughter. I also love family vacations by the water, swimming, biking, walking, and reading.

I think it's really important to be able to see these relationships and to understand the mathematics that govern them. I am passionate about helping students because I love watching them have that "light bulb" moment. I also believe that a student who does not like school can begin to like school if they get the proper help and guidance in subjects. I have worked with K-3 students and 5th graders. I just graduated college and I am now a licensed teacher. I can tutor elementary math, science, reading, writing, and social studies. My favorite subjects to tutor are writing, reading, and science. These were my favorite subjects when I was in school, and they help lay the foundation for other subjects. If a student is a kinesthetic or visual learner it is also fun to work with experiments or little projects with them to help them grasp concepts.

I hold three college degrees which include my Master of Arts in French from Bowling Green State University in August 2005, my Bachelor of Arts in French and International Studies from Baldwin-Wallace College in May 2002, and my Associate of Arts in General Studies from Lorain County Community College in May 2000. I studied abroad at lAlliance-Franaise in Paris, France, in the fall of 2001, and earned the Certificat de Franais Oral 2 Degr II, as well as the Certificat dEtudes de Franais Pratique 2me Degr. While working towards my Masters degree, I spent an academic year abroad from 2003-2004 in Tours, France, studying at lUniversit Franois-Rabelais.My work teaching French began as a graduate student on campus at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) where I taught a French Culture course for an entire academic year. I have also taught three years of Beginning French I & II at the collegiate level at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C). During my time at both BGSU and Tri-C, I would involve certain teaching strategies in my classroom such as group work, presentations, class discussions, and viewing films that portrayed different French-speaking cultures. It was very important to me that my students would gain a deeper understanding and acceptance of other cultures.I am quite traditional in my style of teaching and tutoring; there is great importance in memorizing, in making note cards, and studying on a regular basis--however, French is definitely not all work and no play! Learning French can be a lot of fun if a student lets the language in. Besides just teaching or tutoring the language, I really enjoy bringing the culture and my own personal experiences to the table. My former students have always liked hearing about my first-hand experiences while living abroad. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friend and family, taking care of my sweet dog Belle (who also has a good grasp of the French language!), journaling, crafting, and traveling. I've been to France a total of five times and have traveled to several other European countries as well.

When I first began language teaching in 2001, I will be honest and confess that I mirrored the teacher-centered approach of the "sage on the stage" that my professors had utilized while I was working towards my BA and MA in Spanish. When I began my doctorate at the University of Minnesota in Leadership for Intercultural and International Education, however, that began to change. My doctoral program was designed around the cohort model, which was new to me. In it, we were all considered experts in our field and we were expected to teach each other. I liked the responsibility placed on my shoulders of presenting a designated topic to my peers and professor. In this student-centered approach to learning, I appreciated that the professor served the role of mediator / observer and the students were responsible not only for their own learning, but for presenting accurate information to their peers. That positive experience motivated me to shift my teacher-centered approach to a student-centered approach in my ESL classroom. While I don't have my students instruct the entire grammar point or vocabulary lesson in front of their peers, I do assign a micro lesson to each student that they must review with the class as if they were the instructor. Currently, I am an adjunct Non-Credit ESL and Spanish professor at Compton Community College. In my role, my primary mission is to help students develop their language proficiency. Professionally, I define myself first and foremost as a teacher, and in order to teach effectivelyi.e., foster student learning by serving as guide, resource, and cheerleaderit is essential that I continue to expand my own professional expertise. However, teaching involves more than just the development of skills and the communication of knowledge, and a liberal arts education seeks to nurture the qualities of mind and character which permit students to realize their full potential as contributors to society, informed citizens, and caring and responsible adults. Part of my own responsibility as an educator is to serve as a role model by committing myself to personal growth as well as to professional development. I believe that the personal and the professional are inextricably interwoven in teaching and that both feed and are fed by the teaching in which I am engaged. Students acquire another language most effectively when they are able to use what they are learning to express something meaningful about topics that are relevant to them. I am a member of the TESOL International Association and also subscribe to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages' (ACTFL) emphasis on proficiency-based instruction that prepares students to carry out global functions such as creating with the language by recombining learned material, asking and answering questions on familiar topics, and narrating and describing in major time frames. Whereas second language pedagogy used to distinguish between the "active" skills of speaking and writing and the "passive" skills of listening and reading, the current terminology of "productive" versus "receptive" recognizes the active nature of all four skills. Nevertheless, such a distinction still masks the productive process that takes place when one decodes and interprets an oral utterance or written text. In structuring my language courses, I strive to create and implement activities that enable students to develop all four language skills, with particular emphasis placed on listening. Listening is often overlooked during the first two years of college instruction, but it is essential for student success and is actually the most used skill in immersion and everyday contexts.

FYI: The system lets me check 1 time slot per day. I have more availability. I have a background in teaching and communication, and I enjoy helping students move from feeling stuck or unsure to feeling clear and confident. Over the years, I've found that many students don't struggle because they can't learn the material, but because it hasn't been explained in a way that works for them. I work with students to break things down into clear, manageable steps and help them build confidence as they go. I'm especially strong at helping students organize their thoughts, express ideas clearly, and feel more comfortable working through challenging material. Many students don't need more informationthey need someone to help them make sense of what they already have. My style is patient and practical, and I work with each student at their pace. My goal is simple: that each session leaves them with more understanding and a little more confidence to keep going.

At Bowling Green State University, I gained experience with academic essays by tutoring students through the Writing Center. I worked primarily with first-year students on argumentative essays, but sometimes had the opportunity to work with graduate students on research papers and with English as a Second Language students needing help applying grammar rules.Since 2009, I've been teaching middle and high school Language Arts courses ranging from 6th grade reading through Senior Composition. I am native French speaker from the south of France. I arrived in the United State about 15 years ago after living in Asia for almost 5 years. When I first came to the US, I was asked to teach French at the university while pursuing my master degree. I truly enjoyed the experienced. Sharing the knowledge of the French language, helping the students navigate through out the difficulties and having them discover a whole new culture, have been for me a wonderful reward.

I am passionate about both learning and teaching. I believe in a positive, encouraging, and supportive teaching style. I have a Bachelors of Science, a Masters of Science in Computer Science, and am currently finishing my PhD. I've taught at the university level and worked as a professional trainer.Walt Disney once said, "Laughter is no enemy to learning" and I believe in that maxim. Learning should be fun and engaging, tied to real-world examples and explanations that not only illuminate the concept but also show the student why the information is important.I teach a variety of STEM topics, mostly focused around Computer Science, and I specifically focus on GRE preparation. There are a lot of tips and tricks you can use to maximize your score, as well as core concepts that can help you solve problems more easily. I have extensive experience with the GRE and with helping people get into grad school.
