I have 8 years in special education and 4 years as a certified teacher. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and 44 master's hours toward an MEd in special education. Although tutoring per se is new for me, I have extensive experience tailoring lessons to individual children. I can help with all subjects in grades 1-6 and some specialty areas such as astronomy, history, social studies, and art. I love to teach and seeing the spark of understanding within any subject. My philosophy of teaching is that I truly believe that ALL children can learn and I never stop trying to find what works for your child. I love to ice skate, make pearl jewelry, zombies, reading, watch movies, and go long walks. I am an expressive, dynamic teacher that likes to make learning fun!
The purpose of education is to help our citizenry better itself thru knowledge, better skills, and an enhanced lifestyle. I believe the first step for tutors and teachers is to find a discipline they enjoy, are passionate about, and desire to share it with others. Tutors and teachers must know their audience. I have been a community college accounting instructor for 35 years and taught students possessing a wide range of academic skills, from students possessing a GED certificate to students with doctorates retraining for today's work environment. Incorporating participation from everyone in the class is vital for students to feel welcome and comfortable in the class. As teachers, we must be flexible in delivery methods. The same methods don't work for everyone. With online classes, I try to provide a variety of tools including team projects, discussion boards, narrated slides, practice quizzes, demo problems, and flash cards. Providing as many items as possible without information overload is critical in accounting. I strive to provide extra help and encouragement to struggling students. Many times it's not the subject matter but a wealth of other problems the student is facing. I always try to be empathetic but fair. A good question is: "What would help me if I were the student?" I know and understand that sometimes life gets in the way of our best-laid plans. For a student to feel successful in an online class the student must feel included in the class activities. I never want students to feel an online class is a glorified independent study. I use a discussion forum for every chapter for students to ask questions regarding difficult topics and hopefully post answers to some of these questions. I send email messages to students that miss 2 tests in a row to see what the problem is with their lack of participation. Not always, but sometimes the phone call is all it takes to get the student back on track. Students need to know teachers had to once learn the discipline. I tell my students there is no mistake in accounting they will make I haven't made 100 times. Students need to see the human side of a teacher. Many times a teacher might be the only role model a student has. A teacher should consider this mentoring task a privilege to help guide and shape someone else. Part of a teacher's role is to build confidence and encourage students to reach further. I have community college graduates from my program that continued on to obtain a bachelor's degree and are now CPAs. I am most proud of my students that decide they want to continue their education and then come teach for me. On days when things haven't gone right in the class, I always tell myself, "This is the only time students have to learn about this topic. So don't give up and dismiss class early." We can't afford for students to miss a chance to learn something that might make a difference to them in the future.
I grew up in Charlotte and have lived in numerous neighborhoods in the area. My family had a cottage at Lake Norman for many years and we enjoyed many summers on the water. Since then I have made purchases at Lake Norman and Charlotte and have extensive knowledge of what both areas have to offer. NC licensed Broker since 2001.Working as a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Residential is a great way to be able to provide specialized service to prospective clients in geographical areas that they might not otherwise have access to with other companies. Many clients come to the area without any knowledge of what areas might be a good fit for them. I enjoy finding out what their needs are, and developing a strategy to locating the home that best fits their motivations. As for sellers, I understand the selling process with 18 years of experience as a full time Broker. I understand how to see a property from a buyer's perspective and am able to "coach" sellers in a way to make their properties the most desirable to potential buyers.
I graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Secondary English Education. I am pursuing my MFA at New York University in Musical Theatre Writing. As an educator in the field of secondary English education for the past four years, I have learned that students first need a support system in order to achieve their own greatness. I hope to be at least a small part of that support system as well as a source of guidance for students who are in need.
I have about 3 years of experience tutoring college-level math. I work well with all ages, so I can tutor K-12 math topics like Arithmetic, Fractions, Functions, Algebra, Geometry; advanced high-school/college topics like Pre-Calculus, Calculus I-III, Linear Algebra; and some more advanced topics like Techniques of Proof, Differential Equations, Real Analysis, Abstract Algebra, etc. In 2024, I graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Mathematics. Whenever I tutor someone, I ask them what goal they have for the session, and I help them achieve it. I explain concepts clearly and thoroughly, and I do not mind going back and re-explaining something. I love learning math, and a great way to learn math is to teach it. I also love helping others, so tutoring is a perfect fit!

I am a graduate of Appalachian State University with double degree in Mathematics and Philosophy, and a minor in Computer Science. I am currently working toward completing my degree in Computer Science at Oregon State University. Since graduating I have been a classroom teacher of Mathematics and Computer Science. I have taught every math class ranging from Elementary Algebra to Calculus. Students in my classes know they will be asked to explore topics and think critically about the content. I believe that students learn best when the material is meaningful and interesting. For that reason, I use lots of real-world examples and I work to learn about what my students are interested in so that I can connect the material to their life. I believe education is important because it helps us continually grow as individuals and intellectuals. In my spare time in enjoy playing video games, reading, and playing music. I am also working on multiple coding projects in Python, Java, and Javascript.
My passion is helping to educate my clients in the areas they need assistance with. As a financial advisor and investment advisor representative, this is what I do on a daily basis, and I look forward to helping you accomplish your goals.
My Number 1 tutoring goal is to ignite the passion for knowledge and learning inside of every student I have the opportunity to teach. Everyone has the potential to be a learner--it's all about having the tools and someone to believe in you to give you the confidence to try.
I have had the privilege of gaining experience in many subjects. I love to learn! The only thing I enjoy more than learning is sharing my knowledge with others. I possess a BS in Chemistry and Psychology, concentrating in Criminal Justice, where I learned about Criminology, Forensics, and Anthropology. I have worked in Business Administration and tutored elementary math and science to collegiate chemistry. I stay active and was a lifeguard and taught swim lessons. I enjoy hula hoop dancing in my free time and do professional performances, as well as teaching lessons to all age groups. I have taught English as a Foreign Language to almost 1,000 students in many different subjects, such as Core Curriculum, Public Speaking, Grammar, Writing, and Pronunciation, and hold a TEFL certification. I am currently also a professional freelance writer in topics like Marketing and Technical and Creative Writing. I look forward to helping your child reach their academic potential and cannot wait to meet you.
I recently graduated with a PhD from Columbia University, where I taught undergraduates in music, anthropology, cultural studies, and writing. I sought to engage students by relating classroom material to the students’ own interests in music, culture, and world affairs. With a certificate in innovate pedagogy from the Teagle Institute, moreover, I bring new media tools into my pedagogic approach, helping students explore material from a variety of angles. Such interactive approaches complement and expand upon more traditional activities, helping students learn to become reflexive about their own thought processes and academic output. My own experience with AP English and Spanish, GRE, TOEFEL and TESOL test preparation and test design makes a strong test prep teacher.I have taught ESL, English reading and composition, Portuguese, anthropology, cultural studies, and music to a variety of learners in a variety of countries. In South Korea, I taught composition and analytical skills to high-achieving middle and high school students, working with both large and small classes and tutoring a high school junior one-on-one. In both Santiago and New York City, I taught English to small groups of adults with proficiencies ranging from advanced to absolute beginner. I have also privately tutored adults in Portuguese in New York. All of these experiences have heightened my sensibilities to different learner needs, particularly with regards to language learning, and I enjoy finding creative ways to convey information to students with different learning styles.
