I have been working as a Science professional for over ten years. I have an undergraduate degree in Biology from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Science in Biology from Western Kentucky University. I currently teach Environmental Sciences and Biology in the college setting. I have taught science and math (Algebra, Geometry, i.e.) to high school students. I love to inspire and motivate students. I truly believe that every student is equipped to learn. I am very patient, and I always go the extra mile to make sure my students succeed in whatever they desire to achieve. Texas has been my home for twenty-five years. I was born in Lexington, Kentucky, but moved to Round Rock, Texas after serving in the U.S. Navy. I hold a teaching certificate in Texas and Kentucky and have over ten years of experience teaching Spanish and French in both states.I hold a Ph.D. in Spanish and a B.A. in French and Spanish.Learning a language involves many skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Sometimes, grammar may be a stumbling block. Sometimes, it's reading comprehension. Or a student may need extra practice to prepare for AP exams I tailor tutoring sessions to fit the skill level of each student.In addition to Spanish and French, I tutor in Writing, Literature, Grammar and Mechanics. I am multi-published (young adult novels, short stories, biographies, and translations). Over the years, I have coached many new writers, both adults and young adults.In my free time (when I'm not writing), I like to swim, read, and play backgammon. I have three grown children, two cats, and two dogs.

I am a graduate of Western Kentucky University, having received my Master of Science degree in Mathematics with a computational focus. I have multiple years of experience teaching mathematics in both classroom and one-on-one settings.I am nonbinary and use they/them pronouns.I have loved mathematics all my life, and I love putting myself in students' shoes to explain it in the way that they best understand. I believe that working through images and intuition, rather than rote symbolic manipulation, is the most effective way to communicate mathematical ideas.

As a Ph.D. student in Industrial-Organizational Psychology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, I am deeply passionate about behavioral research methods and statistics. My journey through higher education has equipped me with a robust understanding of these subjects, which I strive to convey to my students. I have experience as a teaching assistant, where I guided students in research design and statistical analysis, emphasizing the importance of understanding data beyond mere calculations. My tutoring background includes public speaking, where I helped students refine their presentations and writing skills. I received my BA in biology with a concentration in environmental and evolutionary biology from Thomas More College, and my MS in biology from Western Kentucky University. While working on my masters degree, I spent 3 semesters teaching undergraduate general biology and zoology labs. While I am interested in tutoring a variety of subjects, science and biology specifically are my real passions. My scientific education has helped me grow immeasurably and I would love to help others have the same experience. I know first hand that formal education is not always the most effective way of learning. As a tutor, it is my place to step in when that traditional structure has failed, and I relish the opportunity.

I am currently in my fourth year teaching high school Spanish 1 and 2. I graduated with my B.A. in corporate and organizational communication in Spanish from Western Kentucky University in May, 2018. I recently obtained my Master of Arts in Teaching in Spanish from WKU in May, 2021. I tutor Spanish, PRAXIS Spanish, and ACT English and Reading. Spanish is undoubtedly my favorite subject to tutor as I love helping others better themselves through language.

I am a student of art and science and love the place where they meet. I've studied figure drawing and oil painting at the Art Institute of Chicago and at Western Kentucky University (WKU). At WKU. I received dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Writing and Literature. I was a Penn Warren scholar, and I have published works of poetry, literary criticism, and creative non-fiction. I favored agrarian authors whose works of fiction led me to the study of agricultural systems and related works of non-fiction. Subsequently, I obtained my Master of Arts degree in Social Responsibility and Sustainable Communities at WKU. Since graduation, I have taken a more active approach to study and prefer my hands in the dirt to my head in the clouds. I obtained my Permaculture Certification from Scott Pittman in Costa Rica and my Aquaponics Certification in Hawaii. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and Writing. In my experience helping struggling students, we always seem to have the most fun (with remarkable advancements) bringing out their personality in writing to give a real sense of ownership to the task. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it is integral for opening avenues of opportunity in life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading books with my son, drawing, tending my food forest and veggie beds, and playing Dungeons & Dragons.

Hello! Let me begin by sharing what I believe to be my guiding principle as a teacher. William Butler Yeats once stated that "education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." Mathematics education is not about dumping a bunch of facts, formulas, and theorems into a bucket that you carry around with you. It is about looking for patterns, planning solutions, and solving problems. This requiring more than just knowing a bunch of facts. You have to critically think about the problem, the solution, and the path that you must take to get the answer. There are usually many different paths to get the answer, and that is one of the most confusing parts for most students.My 13 years experience as a high school mathematics instructor and five experience as a college level instructor have given me insight into how to help each student achieve their goals and lessen the confusion. There are multiple ways to approach real life problems and that is what I believe most mathematics courses attempt to teach us. It is important to understand some basic facts about mathematics, but it equally as important to have a solid foundation in problem solving. My teaching approach is to foster an understanding of problem solving techniques while ensuring that the basic skills are rooted in a solid foundation.

I am an experienced high school teacher of English, German, and English as a Second Language, with professional certification in Georgia, Florida, Texas, and Illinois. Additionally, I am an experienced college instructor and translator. I have taught research and essay writing at the college and high school levels, and many of my students have been highly successful gaining scholarships and admission to top universities.After graduation from the University of Massachusetts with a MA in German, I spent a number of years at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand working toward the PhD in German and film studies. I have also studied and taught for a number of years in Germany.Courses I have taught include American literature, British literature, film studies, IB German language, and college-level German literature and language. I am very familiar with the standards required for AP and IB German and also GCSE German.

I am a certified teacher in both Tennessee and Oregon with my Master of Arts in Teaching from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee. I currently work for Portland Public Schools and Portland State University, where I teach English as a Second Language.I began teaching after my college graduation in 2006 at English as Second Language International, which prepared non-native English speaking students to enter an American university setting. From there, I was accepted into the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program and spent a year working in Japanese middle schools. I also did volunteer work in Ireland for a year. I worked full time for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools while a graduate student. I moved to Oregon in 2011.I have taught people of all ages in many different subject areas. I enjoy writing and reading, which are two strengths of mine as an educator. I understand, as someone who has graded many papers, what makes a good paper and how to help a student produce one on their own. I also love history and took my tiny high school's only AP class; AP U.S. History.

I am a graduate of Elizabethtown Community and Technical College and Western Kentucky University. From these two post-secondary education institutions, I hold an A.A.S in Business Technology Management Option, a B.S. in General Management, and a M.A.E. in Learning and Behavior Disorders Grades K-12. I've received additional training through the University of Louisville to become an Autism specialist. I went into Special Education because I have a passion for helping others and desire to help everyone reach their maximum potential. Since 2011, I have worked with high school students with a variety of disabilities in the resource and co-taught settings in a wide variety of subject areas. My favorite subjects include English, US History, and Arts & Humanities. I also enjoy helping students improve executive functioning and social skills. When working with students, I like to find the learning style that works best for them to help them succeed. Outside of teaching, my favorite thing to do is spend time with my family. Being a wife and mother are my greatest accomplishments. I also enjoy participating in theatre on and off stage, writing, baking, sewing, painting, and playing video games.
