Hi! My name is Casey and I am looking forward to working with you! I have been a teacher and school administrator for 14 years, mostly working at the middle school level. I work with students, parents, and adults on organization, social-emotional learning, and core content area basics on a DAILY basis in my current position. I have three kiddos in elementary school and my husband is a teacher too!

I went to the University of Detroit Jesuit High School, a highly regarded college prep high school in Detroit, and Wayne State University, where I graduated in 2012 with a degree in Film Production. I am a filmmaker with an interest in teaching and interacting with youth. I am very friendly but expect high effort and a positive attitude. In my eyes, every student has the ability to accomplish whatever goals they set their minds to as long as they work hard and push through obstacles.I specialize in tutoring English and reading skills, particularly in preparation for the ACT, SAT, and other standardized tests.
I knew I wanted to teach by the third grade. I went into teaching right after high school and graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education four years later. I eventually acquired a Masters in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College. I've taught grades K-6 as a full time classroom teacher in Michigan, Arkansas, and Texas. I've taught online to Ohio and two different countries. I worked as a math specialist for two years of my career. I've also worked as a scorer for standardized tests in math and writing. I opened my own daycare and tutoring services (Mrs. Teacher's Tutoring Lab) while raising my own little one. Therefore, I've been involved in all aspects of education and enjoyed every bit of it. I've developed a lot of skills over the years to close learning gaps, enhance the high achiever, and help the average student reach new goals; so that all can have a pleasant and interesting learning experience. I'm looking forward to working with you.
I'm ready to help you work toward your learning goals. When you work with me, you'll be taking advantage of my fourteen years of experience as an educator, including over six years as a tutor. And you'll be working with a certified teacher who has professional experience with students of all ages, as well as diverse ethnic, cultural, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds - from elementary school children in underserved communities to international professionals and their families. My education and outside professional experience will also benefit your learning progress. In 2007, I earned my Multiple Subjects (K-8) Certification from California State University, Monterey Bay, a university that stressed outcome-based education. More recently, I worked as an adult educator for Southwest Solutions' Early Childhood and Family Literacy Center; in that position, I helped adults learn how to learn and how to help their children progress academically.Additionally, I have significant professional experience as a writer and editor. So I can not only help you improve your grades on written assignments, I can help you gain proficiency at nearly any sort of writing.Looking forward to working working with you!
Hello. I attended Michigan State University and received a BS with Honors in Chemical Engineering. While doing so, I worked for MSU as a math tutor. It was at this time I realized how much I enjoyed helping others learn what seemed to come so easy to me. After graduating, I worked for a year to pay off my student loans and then enrolled at Wayne State University in Detroit to get my secondary certification. After moving to Texas where a brother of mine lives, I got certified to teach math, chemistry, and physics. After teaching chemistry for six years, I moved to the Austin area and have been teaching math since. Having taught all three subjects, math is by far my favorite because it is so essential and fun, as well as applying to so many areas including chemistry and physics. When working with people to help learn and understand new concepts, I feel it's important to review background knowledge and show how it applies to the new material at hand, relating to the adage that if you don't use it, you lose it.Like I mentioned, learning math can actually be fun, especially the feel of success.Of course, my whole life isn't all math. Personal interests, outside of family life, include collecting. From things like old toys, lunch boxes, cartoon character cookie jars, comics, collector cards, and more, I've probably have or had a collection of sorts. Many things have even spilled over to my classroom, particularly PEZ dispensers. To sum it up, I believe one can have fun in whatever they are doing, even learning math. I like to tell people that there came a point in my life where I had to either grow up or teach, and I haven't regretted my decision since!
Hi, my name is Rachel. I am kind of an academic geek, a literature geek for sure. I love the feeling of being in the classroom and taking part in the discourse that goes on. In fact, if someone were willing to pay me to go to school indefinitely, I would probably take them up on that.I also love working with children and young adults. I feel like I connect well with the different age groups and know how to adjust my approach and interactions to get the best results.I believe that my background, abilities and personality make me the perfect choice to tutor your student.
I believe the best learning happens when complex ideas are made approachable, practical, and engaging. My goal as a tutor is not just to help you get the right answer, but to make sure you understand why it's correct and how to apply the concept in new situations. I focus on breaking down difficult topics into simple, clear steps, and I tailor my explanations to match your learning style.
I am a doctor of physical therapy with a passion for helping others learn. On this platform, I tutor student physical therapists who are preparing to take the National Physical Therapy Examination. I started tutoring as an undergraduate at Skidmore College, where I earned my BA in Biology in 2017. I later tutored extensively at Wayne State University, where I earned my DPT in 2023. I assisted students in classes such as Basic Examination and Evaluation, Human Anatomy, Surface Anatomy, and Management of Orthopedic Patients. I also tutored students in need of remediation for their year-end comprehensive exams, which mimic the NPTE. I believe anyone who is capable of getting into a DPT program is capable of learning the material. In my experience, most SPTs who are struggling have only failed to modify their study strategies appropriately. This is an entirely treatable problem. While of course I will teach the material as needed, my focus as a tutor is in helping you figure out how you learn best. This is a combination of class attendance, note taking, study techniques, and test taking strategies. I believe in active learning whenever possible and utilize evidence based strategies such as spaced repetition. I am interactive with my students; for example, rather than lecturing at you, you tell me whatever you know on the subject and I help guide you to anything you may have missed. We then use that material for clinical correlations and decision making that so often come up on the NPTE. We will come up with study materials to use later on, make and answer practice questions, and practice different test taking techniques. I foster a shame-free environment and welcome mistakes as part of the learning process.
Dear Student, I know that majority of our students hate math and physics. In my tutoring or teaching experience, I try to start any lesson by asking you questions to see where you need help most. I provide you with many examples you can try by yourself then you and me try to review or fix your steps so we can go forward to different example or different idea or subject. Through my tutoring I deal with my students as friends, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters. I am looking for your success and understanding the same way I look and want for my kids.
I am passionate about helping students because I want to see them learn and grow, just like my teachers helped me learn and grow. I have seven years of experience working with students. I received my education from Wayne State University and Buena Vista University. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Sciences & Disorders and a Master of Arts in Curriculum Instruction and Teacher Leadership. I have tutored biology, algebra, phonics, and elementary school math. My favorite subject to tutor is algebra because I am exceptionally good with number expressions and number equations. My teaching style is to help my students learn to their full potential. My tutoring style is to do a pre-test to check students' knowledge and understanding. After I explain the material, teach the student the skill needed, check for comprehension, re-teach, and check for comprehension again. After, I will make time for questions or any additional help.
I have a master's degree in English from Wayne State University and a strong love for the use of proper grammar and punctuation in writing. I would love to help any student strengthen his or her reading skills and comprehension, as well as provide that student guidance on writing, researching, and properly citing essays.
I graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Literary and Cultural Studies and a minor in Film Studies. I am currently working on my Master of Arts, again focusing on Literary and Cultural studies with a minor emphasis on Film Studies. Throughout the latter part of my undergraduate career and continuing into my graduate career I have attended department-wide workshops that encourage students of all writing levels to attend. At these meetings essays of all variants are edited for grammar, mechanics, and overall content. I have helped countless students through these workshops and hope to continue my efforts in a professional capacity. I have a relaxed and encouraging style. I enjoy helping students of all writing levels delve into their essays and find the root of their interest. Regardless of writing level every essay has a truly unique perspective and I take great pride in helping others discover the nature of their work when they are uncertain of what they are trying to say. Outside of my studies I continue to read and watch movies. I use these leisure activities to influence my work as often as I can by inserting them as topics for discussion in my own essays. This helps me remember that studying and learning should always be fun.

I am an O.D. graduate from the class of 2023. Service and language have always been my passion! In addition to course support, I have experience tutoring transitioning high school students, college students, and nontraditional adult/senior students.
Since I was a small child, I knew that I wanted to help people. When I am old and fragile, I want to be able to look back on my life and smile about what I have accomplished. Joining the PhD program for Kinesiology at Wayne State University greatly supports me in this mission. As part of my education, I have had the privilege of being immersed in disability culture; this prepared me to pursue my Doctoral Degree in Kinesiology in Education. My interest in becoming an educator dates back to my early elementary years. As with most students, I had experiences with instructors that varied between the good, the bad and the ugly. When my experiences were good, I excelled, took risks, learn, and I would push myself to master a skill. With the bad instances, I would shy away and try not to be noticed by the teacher. I quietly attempted to look busy. The ugly experiences were where I would become embarrassed and completely disengage with a lesson and from an instructor. Even at a young age, I saw which one of these people I would want to model. So the seed was planted in my head to become not just an educator, but a person to inspire others to reach for the stars and strive to achieve their full potential. In my free time I enjoy basketball and teaching.
My mathematical skills include Algebra, Geometry, Calculus and Statistics. I struggled while I was in college at times with various subjects and I am aware of what it feels like to need help and question if I can even pass a particular class. I can give real life situations to any problem that will explain how to solve the problem and reduce stress and anxiety.
As a veteran elementary educator with a Master of Arts in Teaching from Wayne State University and a Bachelor's degree from The University of Michigan-Dearborn, I've taught all subjects in self-contained classrooms with a particular focus on grades 2 and 3. Now, I'm channeling that experience into what I love most: helping children become strong, confident readers. Here's what sets my approach apart: I don't believe in one-size-fits-all instruction. Before we even begin, I take time to truly understand your child through reading assessments and learning style inventories. This helps me pinpoint exactly where they need supportwhether it's phonics, fluency, comprehension, or confidenceand design engaging, interactive lessons that match how they learn best. My extensive teaching background means I understand the full picture of your child's learning. I've worked with students with different learning needs and styles, so I know how to reach children with varied strengths and challenges. What you can expect: Every session is personalized, interactive, and designed to keep your child engaged. I use structured, research-based reading approaches and incorporate hands-on activities, games, and technology when appropriate and possible to add variety and enhance learning. Above all, I keep the instruction warm and relationship-based. My goal isn't just to improve reading skillsit's to help your child discover that reading can be enjoyable and empowering. I've watched reluctant readers become eager readers, and that never gets old. As an avid reader myself, I understand firsthand how reading opens doors to new worlds and opportunities. That's the gift I want to share with your child.
A little bit of information about me.I find computer programming/development to be a very enjoyable occupation. There is something about putting the code together to create an application or a website that is very satisfying. Getting to see the results of the work that was done is very exciting.I obtained my Bachelors of Science degree in IT in May 2014 with courses in C programming, HTML, XML, CSS, Javascript, computer security, web design, graphic design, Adobe In Design and Adobe Illustrator. In May of 2017 I obtained my Master of Science degree in IT with courses in programming, computer security, operating systems, cloud computing and security in the cloud which was my area of specialization. Areas that I gained experience in through work were the Java programming language and Python, along with Microsoft Teams, Word and Excel, and Adobe Photo shop. One of the aspects of teaching, or tutoring a programming language that I like is passing on my enjoyment of writing programs and the excitement of learning how to code. When I have taught classes I try to encourage the students to explore what they can do with the language they are learning How to use it to accomplish their task or objective while also gaining an understanding of how it works. One of the best ways to learn coding of course is to use it to create something. When teaching in a group setting I try to encourage students to work together to solve problems. If one student is having some difficulties at a certain point or the code doesn't seem to be working as it should, I like to encourage everyone to contribute to solving the problem. This teaches them to work together, the same as they would if they were working on a project for a business, and to solve problems that can be encountered in coding. It's always great when a student is able to solve a problem in a program.Writing programs can take work and dedication, but it can also be fun. I try to create an atmosphere where the student feels good about what they can accomplish while having fun learning how to code.

The word, "education" is a mid-16th century term that has two different Latin roots: educare, which means to train or mold, and educere, meaning to lead or draw out. The former entails rote memorization, perfecting a trade, and becoming a productive laborer. The American educational system has widely adopted this ethos, especially in regards to children of the working class. Educere - necessitating critical thinking, inquisitiveness, and innovation - has by and large been factored out of the equation. Consequently, American scholarship and ingenuity has suffered. As an educator, I aspire to revive the spirit of educere for the children of the working class, drawing out every child's vast potential.I have accumulated years of successful experience as an educator in one form or another at all levels. To start, I was a tutor in my local community center throughout my time in high school. I tutored all K-12 grade levels, despite them sometimes being older than me! Moreover, I served a semester of student-teaching in a high school, teaching freshman Algebra and Pre-Calculus. This led to a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics/Biology Teacher Education from Wayne State University. Lastly, I worked as a middle school math and biology instructor for seventh grade students. I can tutor essentially all math subject areas, though Algebra is my specialty and personal favorite. I have successfully implemented Singapore math in my Algebra classroom, a teaching strategy that has proven to be very effective at that level of mathematics. With my expertise in my content areas, extensive training and successful implementation, and passion for education, I am well-equipped to help you reach your academic aspirations.
I attended the University of Detroit Mercy where I gained a Bachelor of Science in Biology. I have also recently graduated with a Masters of Basic Medical Sciences from Wayne State University. As you may be able to tell, I have had a passion for science, especially biology, for many years. My academic journey has given me an immense amount of experience with a wide range of subjects and tests. I know very intimately what it is like to be under pressure to perform well in school and on tests and therefore can relate to students under similar circumstances. I have had the opportunity to tutor many people in a wide range of ages and academic abilities in the past.I tutor a wide range of subjects but am most passionate about Math, Science, Reading, Writing, and Test Preparation. I believe the first and most vital step in working with a student is to identify specifically where he or she is struggling. Every student is different and deserves a teaching method that is tailored to them. I believe students learn best when they are guided along through discussion and hands-on methods as opposed to when they are lectured to; I also believe learning can and should be fun! When it comes to preparing for tests, I believe that what you know is only a small part of the puzzle; perfecting test-taking skills is equally important. I have taken many standardized tests throughout my life, and have been able to do well by understanding the tests and utilizing these skills. When I have spare time, I enjoy staying active by playing basketball and exercising. I also enjoy reading, sports, music and traveling. I look forward to helping you find your full potential on the road to success.
I hold graduate degrees in Applied Linguistics and Peace and Security Studies from Wayne State University. My studies took me to Lebanon, Greece, and Turkey. Since graduation, I have taught K-12 English in the US, and Academic English at several universities in Turkey. While I tutor several subjects, I most enjoy teaching English, Literature, and Social Studies. I have a student-centered approach to teaching. My students tend to enjoy our lessons as we truly build a rapport while covering the material according to their learning styles. I believe that education is the great equalizer, and am passionate about giving each student a chance to maximize their potential through learning and building self-esteem.
I have a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Wayne State University. I am certified to teach English, Science, and Reading. I love teaching students to do the best job they can do. Whether it be reading a book, mastering grammar skills and sentence structure, enhancing vocabulary, or writing a paper, my goal is to make students feel confident about the work they have to present. It is my philosophy that students stay motivated by connecting reading to their personal interests, giving them autonomy over their choices, and focusing heavily on their progress rather than just their mistakes. When reading shifts from a chore to a meaningful achievable activity, student engagement naturally increases. Excellent communication skills via reading and writing are truly the gateway to success. We use those skills in everything we do. I have taught English, reading and writing to middle school, high school and college students. I want all of my students to know English can be fun.
Whether working over practice questions in a test booklet, reading an instructional manual or an obscure book for pleasure in a library corner, we are engaging with the words and ideas of others and measuring them for their value, use and relevance. Thinking is never done in total isolation anyway but rather is always a social exercise and activity. The best teaching and learning then, I think, allows us to consider knowledge, from the most practical to the most abstract, as both social exercise and activity. This means, as exercise, that we get comfortable with the necessary repetitions of learning--reading and writing, listening and speaking with consideration. As social activity, strong teaching and learning allows us to consider knowledge production as constantly unfolding, knowledge production as a place where self-expression and communication within a larger community are not only welcome but of absolute necessity.

This is typically a pivot point from going to struggling to grasping concepts. There is a point when the light bulb comes on, and it is an exhilarating experience for both the student and the teacher or coach.

I started getting interested in Biology in the 10th or 11th grade. That was when I began to think about the world from a scientific perspective. I studied Biology at Wayne State University for five years on a presidential scholarship, for which I am eternally grateful! I minored in Chemistry after getting interested in the inner workings of organic chemistry. While going to college I earned money by tutoring classes I had already taken. I also offered "supplemental instruction" which were informal classroom question and answer sessions. I worked in a research lab after earning an undergraduate research fellowship and explored Physiology at the School of Medicine. Then went on to study Toxicology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. While there a decision appeared clear between focusing on research or teaching. I like teaching better. I truly enjoy spreading knowledge about Biology and Chemistry and finding fun ways to introduce people to these (often difficult) subjects.
