For me, tutoring is about more than just better grades; it's about making a real difference in how my peers approach learning. My goal is to get my students to the point where they no longer need me. I like to focus on the underlying concepts so that students can apply what we learn in our sessions to problems they haven't seen before. After our sessions, my students should be able to have a concrete plan when attempting a new problem and be able to extrapolate their knowledge of concepts to master the details.

I am passionate in teaching and mentoring students because growing up I've always helped younger students than me and peers and family members who was younger than me in school and it grew on me and I always seek to help those around me and I think being able to tutor students will be great for me due to the experiences that I have. I am an early graduate in high school so I graduated in 2022 and working towards my bachelor in Computer Science at Oregon State University. Subjects I am open to tutoring and some of my favorite subjects to tutor are math and reading/writing. These are some of my personal favorites because I've always went above and beyond for myself in math when I was in middle school and high school and I find it fun working through equations and finding alternatives for myself and for those around me who needs help with math and to understand it better. Outside of school I love playing video games and consider it a hobby but I aside from gaming I love to draw and paint and am a big nerd for building lego structures.

I am passionate about helping students to succeed in their classes because I know what it is like to be frustrated about not figuring something out like the answer to a reading question or math problem. In the process of learning, I hope you come to love learning new things as much as I do.Currently, I have experience working with both college and high school students, but I have also worked with middle schoolers as a tutor when I was in high school. I recently started reading a fantasy series called Dragonlance, which is a Dungeons and Dragons based world. I also like to watch movies and tv shows. I recently graduated from Oregon State University with a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Psychology. Since graduation I've been working in the fishing industry in Alaska, and as a firefighter in Oregon. I am also currently studying to become an actuary. I've been tutoring math students of all levels from elementary arithmetic to calculus since 2009. My favorite subject to teach is algebra because it's so important to have a solid foundation in it, and it's a subject that many students struggle with. I've found more often than not, that students struggle with math because they weren't able to master previous material. Tutoring can be extremely helpful to students because it's so much more targeted and lessons can be tailored to a students needs. My personal teaching philosophy is that any motivated student can learn math and it's up to me to figure out the most effective way get the material to stick. I try to be flexible with my approach because different students respond differently to certain teaching styles so what works well with one student may not be right for another. In my free time I play and watch a lot of basketball, unfortunately my Blazers are having a rough season. My other big interests are rock climbing and running with my Doberman/German Shepard puppy, Phife.

I am also an overnight technician in the equine department at the OSU veterinary teaching hospital. I have both an associates and bachelors degree in Veterinary Technology, but am also currently working toward achieving my BS in Biology at Oregon State University. I first began to experience what it was like to teach students while I was studying at Oregon State University.
