I graduated from Oregon State University with my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a focus in organic and biochemistry, and I graduated from Indiana University with my Master of Arts in Chemistry and Education with a focus in organic and biochemistry. I have accumulated over 7.5 years experience tutoring students from elementary school up through college. In the past, I tutored in math, chemistry, grammar, writing, and biology. I also have 4.5 years experience teaching chemistry as assistant instructor, at the universities I attended, as a high school chemistry/physical science teacher, and as an instructor at Northwest Vista College and Incarnate Word University. While I can tutor all pre-calculus math, chemistry, grammar, and writing, my favorite subjects to tutor are chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry. I am most passionate about chemistry because it factors into all aspects of our life from cooking and fireworks to chocolate and cars. It describes the mechanics of both the micro and macro world and is the foundation to most other sciences. I am firm proponent of an education due to it opening doors of opportunity to better ones life. I always prompt students to obtain the answers through their own knowledge and abilities. As I tutor, I believe that it is my job to provide a student with the tools to succeed on their own. I recently graduated from Oregon State University with a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Psychology. Since graduation I've been working in the fishing industry in Alaska, and as a firefighter in Oregon. I am also currently studying to become an actuary. I've been tutoring math students of all levels from elementary arithmetic to calculus since 2009. My favorite subject to teach is algebra because it's so important to have a solid foundation in it, and it's a subject that many students struggle with. I've found more often than not, that students struggle with math because they weren't able to master previous material. Tutoring can be extremely helpful to students because it's so much more targeted and lessons can be tailored to a students needs. My personal teaching philosophy is that any motivated student can learn math and it's up to me to figure out the most effective way get the material to stick. I try to be flexible with my approach because different students respond differently to certain teaching styles so what works well with one student may not be right for another. In my free time I play and watch a lot of basketball, unfortunately my Blazers are having a rough season. My other big interests are rock climbing and running with my Doberman/German Shepard puppy, Phife.

Born and raised in an academic family in Shanghai, China, I earned my B.S. and M.S. in Biochemical Engineering from Wuxi Institute of Light Industry. Additionally, raising my two wonderful children gave me extensive tutoring experience, from Chinese language instruction to homework support and standardized test preparation. I do just that and teach my students how to think instead of what to think. I use analogies, visual indicators and various different explanations to teach a concept so it sticks. I'm a Masters' degree recipient in Geology. Geology is a rather fun field because you spend some time working in a lab and more time out in the field (which is a fun way of saying "I do science while I camp). I have received an Associates in Science from Portland Community College and nearly finished with my Bachelor's in Physics from Oregon State University, which I expect to have in August. Both my college and life experience has led me to work with people of various ages in a plethora of settings, but a favorite focus has been in teaching children.
