I received my bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kennesaw State University in 2016. Since then, I've been working as a design engineer. I've recently gone back to school to work towards a master's degree in Mathematics at Indiana State University. I teach on campus German elementary and intermediate German classes and all levels of ESL writing classes, as well as summer language and ESL writing classes. As an instructor of the lower level German classes, my goal is to introduce the German language to students through culture, and to show new language learners the joys and possibilities that come with learning a new language. On the intermediate and advanced level, the focus is on teaching language through culture, as well. At the higher levels the focus is also on working on each of the four skills, reading, speaking, writing and reading, more intensively. I teach German and ESL, because I grew up learning foreign languages, and find that knowing at least one foreign language should be everybody's life goal! The reason I am passionate about helping students is becauseI love to see children learn. It is a joy watching them discover new skills. To know that I had a part in that makes me continue in my work. In every grade level I taught, my students have succeeded above average. As a matter of fact, 90% of my 6th grade class exceeded their state exam scores. 70% of the students were accepted into the honors class the very next year as a result of passing that exam. Those students came into my classroom as the lowest academic children for that grade level but left as honor students. That would not have happened if I did not have the desire to pull the best out of them.I have taught and tutored children for over 12 years. As a classroom teacher, I taught Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 4rth, and 6th grade. As a tutor, I worked with children from kindergarten to 8th grade. For 7th and 8th grade,I only tutored the subject Reading/ELA.I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University, Bloomington and later earned my master's degree in Early Childhood Education.I tutor math up to the 4th grade. However, my favorite subject to teach is Reading. I currently teach Reading (English Language Arts) up to the 6th grade. Younger children love the way I read stories to them. When I taught preschool online during the pandemic, I recorded myself reading stories. One of the parents told me that her daughter would ask to view one of my story videos before going to sleep. It doesn't matter what grade level, I am always commended by school administrators and parents for my ability to teach reading. In the younger grades, I am successful with teaching children how to read. In the upper grades, I am successful with developing reading skills. My classes always have the highest reading scores compared to my comrades. This is not to brag, I am just sharing the results of my experiences. Reading has always been a favorite of mine. I was reading the King James Bible by the second grade. I was reading above grade level all throughout my school years. I was always the one in class reading with expression. Today, I try to get children excited about reading as well. The more excited children are about reading, the more they will become interested in reading which in turn will help develop their reading skills.I like for children to learn naturally - to use everyday life situations as the basis for their learning. I am certified to teach Montessori in the home, which is a holistic way of teaching. Learning in a natural way is less stressful for children. I will be honest, however, it can be difficult for me to use my teaching philosophy when I am not in the right type of environment. I'm always concerned about others' opinions.Outside of academia, I do a lot of traveling for the church, usually in the summertime. I am a youth leader of an organization that focuses on developing youth that brings out their God given talents and interests. It's a lot of fun.

Hi, I'm Jon. With 20 years in education and 6 years teaching Social Studies, I'm excited to help you strengthen your understanding of US History, World History, and Geography. Our sessions will be engaging, interactive, and focused on showing you why Social Studies is such an important part of our society. You'll learn, grow, and have fun along the way.

I am currently in my last two semesters at Indiana University and will be graduating with a BS in psychology in December of 2022. I will be hopefully returning to Indiana University to complete my MSW with a start date of January 2023. My dream is to be a social worker for children with chronic or terminal illnesses. I started my tutoring/teaching career my freshman year of high school where I worked as a student-teacher for the pre-school/pre-k classroom located inside my school. I also worked in the SPED classroom as a peer helper where I was able to create and build lasting peer friendships in order to help develop SEL and communication skills. While I have many experiences teaching developmental appropriate activities in math, reading, writing, fine/gross motor, and SEL, I am most passionate about teaching each of these subjects with real-life objects or concepts (I do have a strong place in my heart of STEM and SEL). I like to structure all my lessons in a way that is appealing, intriguing, and meets the need of each individual student. I believe that education is essential but does not mean sitting down following a worksheet. I have many years of experience working with children ages 3-18 with various learning, physical, and mental disabilities. I am also extremely knowledgeable about 504 and IEP plans. In my spacetime, I like to go to dance classes, write poems, and spend time with my friends, family, and pets!
