I am a graduate of Boise State University, where I received my bachelor of Science in Psychology, also Pennsylvania State University, and Capella University where I graduated with a master's degree in human Behavior. While obtaining my degrees as a single mother of two children, my son was diagnosed with ADHD and other learning disabilities. That is where I gained intimate knowledge of IEPs and 504 learning plans. It sparked my fascination with the psychology of people from all different backgrounds. I have worked with individuals with a broad range of different mental health diagnoses and learning styles. I have been homeschooling my seven-year-old granddaughter for the past year and a half (she also has ADHD). I utilize a variety of alternative tutoring methods from the typical school curriculum. I genuinely feel each child is a unique individual and therefore their tutoring should be tailored to their own learning style, strength, weaknesses, and personality whether it be audio, kinesthetic or visual. Previously, I was employed as a CBRS (Community Based Rehabilitation Specialist) worker. It enabled me to work with students of all ages from grade school through high school. The one-on-one work I did with each of those students reinforced that individuality plays an important role in their confidence, comprehension, and success. I'm proud to offer tutoring in Reading, Math, and Language, but I have to admit that Math is the subject I enjoy the most. I love that we are constantly building on knowledge previously obtained (I see it as growth in my mind). I also believe that it is vitally important to keep in mind that when a student is struggling, sometimes finding a lighter (less stressful) way to help them retain information lends a more successful result and a better attitude towards the study sessions. When I'm not in my teaching/tutoring element, I enjoy painting crafts from ceramics to mandalas on coasters, coloring, listening to music and playing board or card games with family.

I have been home-schooling my 11-year-old son for the past 4 years. A job that has proven to be an invaluable experience. I absolutely love the learning experience and personal growth that teaching provides. I often feel I receive so much more from my students than what I give.Fun fact: I am a published poet who can create a jingle for anything. Jingles are great for memory and retention. One of my favorite ways to make English class a fun and exciting experience is by creating jingles. This is my favorite jingle to reinforce present-continuous-tense.If it's happeningWe always use "i-n-g"If it's happeningWe always use i - n -gWe will have so much fun learning English together. Hi, I'm Elle. I have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and I work with students who are serious about passing their exams, bringing up their scores, and students who are willing to work to get it. I cannot do it without your help too! Most of my students come to me after they've been studying for weeks or months and still aren't seeing results. I help them fix what's not working and focus on what actually moves their score. I specialize in high yield areas like fluids and electrolytes, cardiac, respiratory, and pharmacology, and I tailor every session to your weak points so your time is used efficiently. For younger students, I take the time to understand your learning style and use that to cater to your individual needs. I can change my teaching style to fit just about anyone, including students with IEPs. If your exam is coming up and you're ready to be focused and consistent, I'll help you get there.

Dana A. Boyd, PhD Teaching Philosophy As a teacher, my goals are to encourage life-long learning, mastery of content, and develop critical thinking. Understanding each student and how they learn and provide the guidance they need is imperative to diversity and inclusion. Resources used to meet the above goals are to explore all of the resources provided by the Varsity Tours, case studies, peer feedback, supplemental materials, videos, readings, and daily interaction via email, texts, and discussion posts. Kolb's experiential learning cycle helps me to focus on and pay attention to a variety of different approaches to learning based on the students. Assessing student understanding is crucial to this process. Reflection on assignments, by students keeping a journal, helps students with understanding real world issues and how they might solve them. Metacognition is key in this process. I also like to use a variety of assessments, my own videos, papers, tests, homework, and discussion forums. I am in a continuous process of exceeding my own and the University's expectations. Every student has something new to teach me. I flourish in the feedback from students, peers, and the University as a whole. Reflecting on the above feedback helps me weave in new ideas and concepts that I may not have thought of previously. I love to learn, so continuously learning new information through trainings and by providing these trainings to my peers helps me to be the best teacher I can be for my students.

Since graduation, I have traveled to several countries as I have a strong interest in learning about and from other cultures. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Social Work, and social justice in particular; executive functioning; and adult health and wellness. In my previous experience as a mental health professional, helping students learn new ways to organize and plan and see themselves as capable and competent was one of the most rewarding parts of my work. I also taught social work and interpersonal relations at a university and loved watching the students grasp new concepts and really begin to see themselves as social workers or helping professionals. I am a firm believer in the importance of education and the opportunities that can be had as a result. In my work as a university instructor, I wanted my students to be able to think critically and from multiple perspectives and not just memorize terms. I loved helping my therapy clients and my students identify various solutions to problems they or their future clients might encounter, which empowered them and increased their confidence. In my spare time, I enjoy playing with my dog, running, gardening, and getting outdoors to enjoy nature and seasonal activities such as kayaking, hiking, and cross-country skiing.

My many experiences as a classroom, hybrid, and online graduate student have given me a unique perspective on what makes an excellent online instructor and what creates a disastrous experience for students. I have 13 years of experience as a classroom instructor and several years as an online tutor. I know the foundation of success for online nursing students is contingent on faculty being able to create a cordial and professional relationship with each student. I have extensive experience with APA formatting and writing style and available for editing APA papers including grammar and flow of the content. My teaching experiences include BSN, ADN, and LPN/LVN programs. These programs are regionally accredited and required instructors to use and create NCLEX structured questions. It is imperative for student success during and after completing school to critically evaluate and analyze nursing practice through difficult and alternative format questions. Unfortunately, NCLEX structured questions can be intimidating for students. As a former Assistant Dean for Academic Success and as an online tutor, I have extensive experience helping students understand and apply their knowledge to decrease test anxiety, decrease frustrations with studying, and increase their confidence. Nothing feels better than to hear from students who discovered their personal learning style and hearing about their successes.

I came to the United States from Puerto Rico right after high school. Back then, my English was limited, but I had the good fortune of meeting professors and tutors who spent some extra time with me and helped me succeed along the way. I graduated from the University of Dayton in Ohio with a major in Business Administration and a minor in Education. Because I saw the impact that people could have in students' lives, I decided I wanted to dedicate my life to teaching. I have been teaching for over 20 years, from junior high all the way to college, which is my current job. I like tutoring Spanish and ESL (we call it EAP at the college level English for Academic Purposes) since those are the subjects I teach. I am also passionate about Math, and although I do not have a degree in that subject, I have taken many courses at the college level for my own personal enrichment. I believe that learning from a teacher and from a tutor is the perfect combination for many students who need the extra time to process knowledge at their own speed and the right setting to feel secure about asking questions without being afraid.
