I have been teaching 20 years. I am able to teach and help students understand things they never have understood before in Spanish, beginning Algebra 1, and English as a second language. It is my passion to help students succeed and feel confident in their abilities. I've taught high school and college Spanish for 20 years, so I really understand what students need to know to be successful in this class.

I have been teaching online since 2010. I began teaching part time for three different universities at the same time and have taught many different subjects including psychology, counseling, social work, family therapy, children and adolescent development, psychopathology, conflict resolution among others. I have two master's degrees: one in Social Work and one in Criminal Justice and a PhD in Human Services. I have two adult daughters and one grandson and live in Northeast Georgia though I am originally from Northeast Ohio.
I came to the United States from Puerto Rico right after high school. Back then, my English was limited, but I had the good fortune of meeting professors and tutors who spent some extra time with me and helped me succeed along the way. I graduated from the University of Dayton in Ohio with a major in Business Administration and a minor in Education. Because I saw the impact that people could have in students' lives, I decided I wanted to dedicate my life to teaching. I have been teaching for over 20 years, from junior high all the way to college, which is my current job. I like tutoring Spanish and ESL (we call it EAP at the college level English for Academic Purposes) since those are the subjects I teach. I am also passionate about Math, and although I do not have a degree in that subject, I have taken many courses at the college level for my own personal enrichment. I believe that learning from a teacher and from a tutor is the perfect combination for many students who need the extra time to process knowledge at their own speed and the right setting to feel secure about asking questions without being afraid.
I am passionate about helping people learn new things and become more confident in their abilities to be successful in the academic and professional world. I am a life learner myself and with over 20+ years of experience in the training world, I know I've mastered the patience, passion and the right verbal and written communication skills to make a positive difference at all levels.

Reading can take you so many places . Because of my experience teaching Pre-K through 2nd grade , I understand the importance of understanding of letters , letter sounds , phonics and beginning reading skills so that students may progress into fluent readers and fully comprehend what they are reading . I am patient and I enjoy working with students one on one to establish an environment in which they feel comfortable learning with me . I also have years of experience teaching adults English. The adults that I have worked with also reach goals of speaking fluently and overall being more comfortable speaking , reading and writing English. We start at the foundational skills just like anyone learning to read and write. Please let me know your goals and I would love to help you accomplish them!
All educators should be professional and have a lot of patience no matter where they are teaching- online or in-person, in urban areas, rural areas or small suburban areas with students or all backgrounds and abilities. Educators today have more opportunities to impact the lives of students from various backgrounds due to the technology and learning platforms. Educators can influence student's academic lives more than they realize it. The educators of today need to be creative, continue self-enrichment, be fair, and should be caring. The teacher needs to step out and help with extra-curricular activities like field trips, advising clubs, assisting academic fairs, and promoting student academic achievements through activities outside the classroom. Often this means using their own time and money to promote the activities for the students. Educators need to be able to communicate with students, other educators, staff, administration, and the community. They also need to be available to answer the questions and concerns of the students and help them develop as scholars. Educators are like mentors guiding the learners to truth, knowledge, and helping them find their voice. Educators need to be outstanding examples in both word and deed because they need to be on time, have their materials ready, and be prompt. The educators need to keep track of their commitments to the students as well as the school, especially in a small urban setting where they are counting on them. I strive to be that educator for you.
